  1. Fear is a hell of a drug. Soriano and Z have put fear into Cubs fans over contracts.
  2. What makes you say that? Because it's true. The scouting/farm system might produce a starter at all 4 up the middle positions for us as soon as next season. They've been literally the whole bullpen minus Grabow through the farm as well, and then were able to land Garza for spare parts and Lee/Archer. Fleita just doesnt strike me as someone I think theyd be happy to lose.
  3. Fleita is part of the middle ages thinking that's permeated this system over the past decade. This I assume is based on walks in the system? I can't really say I agree, particularly when the bat prospects in the system are a strength rather than a weakness. I'd say our scouting and farm system are also the organizations main strength right now. Theres no real need to weaken that.
  4. What's so bad ably Fleita? The position player prospects right now are the best theyve had in forever, and remain the strength of the system. He's someone you look to keep.
  5. If you told Jeff Francouer that you were about to bury a curveball in the dirty with high 70s/low80s curveball he'd still swing at it like it's a 95 mph fastball coming down the middle.
  6. What do you perceive Ha's ceiling to be? He's one of the more divisive prospects in this system. I can't see him being more than Marlon Byrd at the plate, although he can be Shin-Soo Choo in RF. Marlon Byrd isn't a bad comp. Ha's a really smart player from what I understand, and they've played him in a whole bunch of positions that he's handled well. He's played CF and not embarrassed himself, and he's probably got the best OF arm of the prospects right now.
  7. really? At this point I think reporters don't mind trolling Quade with stupid questions.
  8. I think that's a needed dose of reality for a lot of Cubs fans. I feel that way as well, I'm very leery of giving anyone a 5-6 year deal and I think Pujols will begin to decline rapidly in the next few years. Why not just not waste time and sign Pujols? Or go for the 27 year old alternate available in the same offseason (this upcoming one)? I'm really not into the idea of sitting around and waiting years for anything. It seems weak, particularly since the two very elite bats up for the taking FROM OUR DIVISION RIVALS. A much more needed dose of reality for Cubs fans is to see that tides can turn very quickly and the team can win if they're smart and active. Plus, having a superstar bat backing the lineup by being in it makes it much easier for everyone else, young and old, to thrive (IMO).
  9. Yes, and I don't agree with it. I like Rudys philosophy, especially when the hitters are good and talented enough to make it work.
  10. it does seem to be consistently ignored that he was the other half of Tampas braintrust. Not to mention he built those pretty decent Houston teams from the late 90s/early 2000s.
  11. Well that's because they came and tikerjib. Tiiikerjiiiib.
  12. Sanchez shouldn't be lumped with those guys. Hell, Marcum probably doesn't either since he's the oldest by at least 2-3 years. Danks would be a very good Not Hamels option. Angels got a big discount.
  13. Good stuff. Hopefully it's for starts.
  14. Overly educated? What the hell does that mean? More anti-intellectual garbage from "baseball men"? I'd hope that a GM of our team held an advanced degree or at least a bachelor's degree (in finance, business, economics, etc.) from a top tier university. You realize, I hope, how much that actually sucks?
  15. Cashner or Angel Guzman?
  16. A hearty yes to both.
  17. Detroit has a bunch of pitchers who've fit that bill over the years. They have done an incredibly awful job of rushing their top pitching prospect (Porcello, Miller, Oliver, and Turner all come immediately to mind) to the point that it's clearly been a detriment to those guys. If the Cubs can somehow trade Zambrano for someone like Porcello, I'll proclaim our new GM a miracle worker. I actually would not mind bringing in Andrew Miller if the Red Sox don't retain him after the season (they probably will the bahstids).
  18. I heard that Crane Kenney was behind 9/11 and the Great Potato Famine. Not Kenney alone. Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano helped him. They're both too lazy to do something like that. Unless by help you mean loaf and mope.
  19. I still think it's the Yankees and Red Sox. He's said he'll DH, and his agent is Scott Boras. The Yanks are DHng Jorge Posada, I believe and Pappy, while he's having a great season is something like 45. Those two probably go hand in hand.
  20. So, do you consider Paul Sullivan a complete buffoon as well? He also had some negative comments on Kenney. Is this real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide.
  21. Yuch. The Ryne Sandberg obsession needs to stop. It's understood that he's done very well as a minor league coach. Good for him.
  22. I heard that Crane Kenney was behind 9/11 and the Great Potato Famine.
  23. I'm firmly in the Cashman camp, but by firmly I mean I don't care as long as the guy/girl doesn't have the same rep as Hendry (scouting guy, old school, guts, instinct, personality, etc). I usually love those kind of people and the world definitely needs more people like that, but baseball's going to the suits now. I actually think my second option would be Cherington, which might be sacrilege with the Friedman hype machine chugging along.
  24. I've been thinking of Porcello as an option too. If Porcello is available, the Cubs should try to land him, no ifs ands or buts. Biiiiig upside. I think he can be a good one in the mold of Carpenter and Wainwright...two seam/curveball, lots of groundballs, good K rates, and efficient. He's a ways off from that, but at 22 so were both Carpenter and Wainwright. Perfect scenario of buying low on big talent...
  25. That's exactly what I'm basing this plan on - the completely inept offensive production at third this year and really for the past 2-3 years. Keep in mind that Zimmerman, Wright, ARod, Beltre, and Longoria have all been injured with down numbers this year. Then there's guys like McGhee and Rolen who have fallen off a cliff. That plus the past couple of years have been runs short all around. Unless they trade for Wright or something, Ramirez is probably someone they should look to keep.
