  1. yeah the problem with this thinking is that until you let pie adjust to major league pitching, there's always going to be "someone better in the lineup now."
  2. http://www.smartphonetv.com/IMAGES/vogue.gif by the way, at team trivia a few months ago, the halftime question was "in the madonna song "vogue", the names of several women appear in the song, but only four men are named in the song. for two points each, write down the name of each man that is named in the song." is it bad that i knew the answer without having to put much thought into it?
  3. I am not really looking forward to Michigan this season. i am. you still aren't going to win. maybe not, and if we lose it will at least give me the knowledge that penn state will never beat michigan in football, so that i don't have to watch those games ever again.

  5. he definitely strikes out at a higher rate than kendrick. probably doesn't have the hand-eye coordination to hit for average like kendrick either, but then again, very few people can hit .359 in their minor league career. thomas is a former ACC middle infielder who hits for a pretty good average and has surprising pop for somebody his size. he strikes out at a little higher rate than you'd like, but makes up for it with a patient approach that result in a good number of walks. his speed is a little bit above average, but combine that with good instincts on the basepaths, and you've got a guy who will pile up a lot of stolen bases with a good percentage of successful attempts. The biggest concern on him is probably his glove, as his arm is average and his range is fringy, and he doesn't get great breaks on balls hit to him. does this sound reaaaaaaaally familiar to anybody?
  6. Take that stupid crap somewhere else! Go. Reds. Death to the Reds and all who root for them. you just wished death on kent mercker. looks like you will be joining me in hell.
  7. Well, the Eagles have tried very hard in the offseason to get a #1 receiver. They almost had Moss, offered Lito Sheppard and a pick for Larry Fitzgerald, and also have looked into Roy Williams. A lot of people are thinking we'll go with a WR in the first round because of this, but there really aren't any #1 receivers in this draft unless there is a pretty big surprise. Our OT's are aging, but with Long, Clady, Otah (thank God - I probably would've had to pick him for realistic-ness and then watch him bust) and Williams off the board, any OT here would be a reach. So, it looks like either DE or safety to me. The next best DE looks like Philip Merling from Clemson, but I don't think he provides the pass rush that we need. Future Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins is getting old, and Sean Considine is average at best. We tried to sign Gerbil Wilson away from the Giants, but he decided to go play for (lose with) the Oakland Raiders. No hard feelings, as he'll be badly overpaid. Anyway, Kenny Phillips is easily the best safety available this year, and would've gone in the top 10 if he'd had a strong junior year. But he, much like the rest of "the U," was a little disappointing in 2007. Still, I am gonna go with him, and assume that it was just a down year for everyone, and his physical ability and intensity will make him Miami's next great safety. 1 Miami Dolphins - Warpticon - Jake Long, OT, Michigan 2 St. Louis Rams - reggiemiller rules - Chris Long, DE, Virginia 3 Atlanta Falcons - The Golden Thunder - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU 4 Oakland Raiders - soccer10k - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St 5 Kansas City Chiefs - PingHitter - Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC 6 New York Jets - BHogg - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas 7 New England Patriots (From 49ers) - GoCubsGo! - Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State 8 Baltimore Ravens - b_wiggy_66 - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College 9 Cincinnati Bengals - Rocket - Keith Rivers, LB, USC (via proxy) 10 New Orleans Saints - OleMissCub - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee St 11 Buffalo Bills - PingHitter - Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy 12 Denver Broncos - MPC - Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh 13 Carolina Panthers - Andy - Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois 14 Chicago Bears - CaliforniaRaisin et al - Brandon Albert, OL, Virginia 15 Detroit Lions - Cubweiser - Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida 16 Arizona Cardinals - Flames24Rulz Michael Jenkins, CB, USF 17 Minnesota Vikings - PriorPower - Calais Campbell, DE, Miami 18 Houston Texans - Rawaction - Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt 19 Philadelphia Eagles - TruffleShuffle - Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (FL) 20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - reds44 - On the clock! 21 Washington Redskins - Handlebar McSkullet 22 Dallas Cowboys (From Browns) - vance_the_cubs_fan 23 Pittsburgh Steelers - AI 24 Tennessee Titans - dew 25 Seattle Seahawks - mhuber92211 26 Jacksonville Jaguars - Cro Magnon 27 San Diego Chargers - CaliforniaRaisin 28 Dallas Cowboys - vance_the_cubs_fan 29 San Francisco 49ers (From Colts) - TruffleShuffle 30 Green Bay Packers - Flames24Rulz 31 New York Giants - jersey cubs fan
  8. don't forget the orioles and giants!!!
  9. Honestly, I don't know how much I agree with the idea that a player with a high K rate has a lower chance of getting on base than a player with a low K rate. When you think of guys who K at monstrous rates like Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn, then compare them to the Juan Pierres of the world, that sort of data tends to run counter to the idea that strikeouts hinder your ability to get on base more than some other factor. no, i was just saying that if a guy strikes out a certain number of times, then manages to halve that rate while keeping all other things the same, he'll get on base more. but, that requires that all other things are the same, and i don't know if that is necessarily the case.
  10. One of my good friends played running back at KState when Mangino was the backs coach. He says he is the biggest piece of trash you will ever meet. well, this part is probably true.
  11. i'm not so sure... 2004: 687 PA, 168 K (24.5% K/PA) 2005: 481 PA, 118 K (24.5% K/PA) 2006: 498 PA, 94 K (18.9% K/PA) 2007: 503 PA, 65 K (12.9% K/PA) So? Whether it's strikeouts, pop outs or ground outs, he still makes the same amount of them. Last year he struck out almost 30 times less than 2006 in only two less at bats and his OBP still dropped. the less one strikes out, the better chance one has to get on base. his BABIP was also down last year, as was his LD%. i don't know that he's necessarily the same hitter; he seems to have cut down his strikeout rate, but he doesn't draw any more walks and also seems to not be making as solid contact. i'm not really sure what to think about him. if he cut down the K rate to where it was last year but managed to keep up his batting average and his power, he'd actually be a decent player.
  12. devils win on a goal that is typical as far as their luck goes - guy blindly throws the puck in front and it bounces off a rangers' d-man skate jeez, sharks just potted three goals in calgary in the first 3.5 minutes. that's how you take the opposition crowd out of the game.
  13. i'm not so sure... 2004: 687 PA, 168 K (K in 24.5% of PA) 2005: 481 PA, 118 K (K in 24.5% of PA) 2006: 498 PA, 94 K (K in 18.9% of PA) 2007: 503 PA, 65 K (K in 12.9% of PA)
  14. They're going to regret that one. The Cubs for not picking him or the D-backs for putting him at Low A? Not taking Parker. At the time, it seemed very hard to argue with the Vitters selection. the cubs are terrible at developing hitters, especially hitters who aren't polished. that made it very easy for a lot of people to find fault with the vitters selection. personally, i was on the wieters bandwagon and still think that he should've been the pick.
  15. i'm assuming we're going to try to do at least 2 rounds. here is the second round: 1 (32) Miami Dolphins -- warpticon 2 (33) St. Louis Rams -- reggiemiller rules 3 (34) Atlanta Falcons -- The Golden Thunder 4 (35) Kansas City Chiefs -- PingHitter 5 (36) New York Jets -- BHogg 6 (37) Atlanta Falcons -- The Golden Thunder 7 (38) Baltimore Ravens -- b_wiggy_66 8 (39) San Francisco 49ers -- TruffleShuffle 9 (40) New Orleans Saints -- OleMissCub 10 (41) Buffalo Bills -- PingHitter 11 (42) Denver Broncos -- MPC 12 (43) Carolina Panthers -- Andy 13 (44) Chicago Bears -- CaliforniaRaisin et al 14 (45) Detroit Lions -- cubweiser 15 (46) Cincinnati Bengals -- Rocket 16 (47) Minnesota Vikings -- PriorPower 17 (48) Atlanta Falcons -- The Golden Thunder (he's gonna be busy) 18 (49) Philadelphia Eagles -- TruffleShuffle 19 (50) Arizona Cardinals -- Flames24Rulz 20 (51) Washington Redskins -- Handlebar McSkullet 21 (52) Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- reds44 22 (53) Pittsburgh Steelers -- AI 23 (54) Tennessee Titans -- dew 24 (55) Seattle Seahawks -- mhuber92211 25 (56) Green Bay Packers -- Flames24Rulz 26 (57) Miami Dolphins -- Warpticon 27 (58) Jacksonville Jaguars -- CroMagnon 28 (59) Indianapolis Colts -- CubColtPacer 29 (60) Green Bay Packers -- Flames24Rulz 30 (61) Dallas Cowboys -- vance_the_cubs_fan 31 (62) New England Patriots -- GoCubsGo! 32 (63) New York Giants -- jersey cubs fan
  16. petition to change thread title to "Dusty Baker's Reds" actually this is how i'm going to refer to them as long as they have that moron as manager. go cubs. beat dusty baker's reds.
  17. deeds isn't a real major league prospect, but he can hit AA pitching and draw walks, so he's a welcome addition to a piss-poor tennessee offense. sometimes these types of players are needed because you want to give the fans of your minor league teams a good product to watch, too.
  18. you'd think it wouldn't take the cubs so long to figure out why the offense sucks.
  19. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/standings so taguchi walkoff = mass suicide
  20. please be summer bob and not april batting practice bob
  21. if lou is going to insist on overmanaging games, then we have to stop carrying 12 pitchers. either make fewer pointless moves or carry 11 pitchers, i'm sick of running out of position players in extra innings.
  22. i'm pretty sure rudy seanez is 75 years old and has pitched for every team in baseball except for the cubs
  23. normally i'd say a 4-pitch leadoff walk is terrible, but in this case i'm okay with it because it's pat burrell
