  1. Year after year Sam Fuld was considered the most disciplined hitter in the Cubs Minor League system. For a team like Chicago, who until this season tended to be very aggressive at the plate, Fuld seemed to fill an obvious need. Combine that with quality defense at a position that demands it and I'd say that was enough to get excited about him. He's a 4th OF at best. He's pretty much been that way for a number of years now. The guy never had any power to speak of. And when does a Center Fielder or top of the order hitter need power to be acceptable in those roles? Seems to me Fuld's quality defense and plate discipline entering this season were more than enough to warrant all the hype he received. the problem with plate discipline and no power is that guys at the big league level will stop walking you. fuld's ceiling is about a 5th outfielder, but that's it.
  2. you spelled red wings wrong
  3. yeah at least a couple of cub fans in this thread haven't learned the lesson about cautious optimism. last time i checked we don't have the greatest track record, so people probably shouldn't be crowing like we have the division locked up. milwaukee is a very good team, and their chances of advancing in the playoffs probably aren't much worse than ours.
  4. i will again be most interested in the results out of the arizona league
  5. mostly i'm just pissed that burrell didn't make it. he's been underappreciated for a long time, and even though he's having his best season, he still doesn't make the all-star team. he was more deserving than nearly all of the guys who actually did make it in the NL outfield. i guess i always liked burrell even though i'm fairly sure the cubs have never ever gotten him out.
  6. that is true. i was just countering your comment that hart deserved it, because he did not. but i hope he has a nice time in new york and does something good for the national league.
  7. you guys aren't helping the cause with "wild card and that's it" and "won't make the playoffs" comments.
  8. hoffpauir has singled, doubled, homered, scored 3 runs and driven in four. i think LLF will need a change of pants.
  9. statistics argue otherwise, but congrats to him i guess. You could statistcs argue with alot of the players. you could, and you'd still find that corey hart hasn't been one of the 6 best outfielder in the national league this year. the answers we would have accepted are matt holliday, nate mclouth, jason bay, xavier nady (3 pirates!), pat burrell, carlos beltran, brian giles and ryan ludwick. that's eight options for six spots.
  10. lol, best rival fan poster on NSBB Keep in mind, your average Brewer fan takes up 2.5 seats. nHyuck Hyuck Hyuck Quite the opposite according to Men's Health. Top 10 fittest in 2006 1. Baltimore (25) 2. Honolulu (2) 3. Virginia Beach (12) 4. Tucson (8) 5. Milwaukee (15) 6. Colorado Springs (3) 7. San Francisco (4) 8. Seattle (1) 9. Louisville-Jefferson (N/A) 10. Boston (11) Top 10 fattest in 2006 1. Chicago (5) 2. Las Vegas (9) 3. Los Angeles (21) 4. Dallas (6) 5. Houston (1) 6. Memphis (4) 7. Long Beach (20) 8. El Paso (11) 9. Kansas City (18) 10. Mesa (15) that list is wrong. Of course it is i've been to baltimore plenty of times; any list that has baltimore as the fittest city is completely bogus. see that number in parenthesis next to the city name? that's where the city ranked the previous year. do you really think baltimore went from the 25th-fittest city to the fittest city in a year? for my money, though, nobody does fat like the south or appalachia.

  13. wow a sellout crowd? that's amazing.
  14. maybe the reds are the ones cheating, not the cubs.
  15. wonder if bob has any insight on the sport of mustache riding.
  16. i've heard a lot of nicknames for mustaches too, but a lot of them aren't really family friendly.
  17. classic dusty-ball... no fundamentals whatsoever.
  18. cotts is pitching the 9th? why not marmol, he's gotta be getting rusty since he hasn't pitched in at least 18 hours.
  19. nah they will hit for him; he's due up second. but it was a pretty solid outing, aside from the meatball to ross.
