  1. watching braun play defense is a wonderful joy.
  2. just move rich to somewhere else from daytona. it's the friggin florida peninsula in the summer, it rains almost every day. put him in tennessee or peoria or something.
  3. There's no rules against crazy theories. As long as everybody remains civil...there's nothing wrong with discussing this. okay, well then maybe change the thread title to "kerry wood crazy conspiracy theory" so that people don't think "oh crap what's wrong with his arm"
  4. the cubs have usually DOWNPLAYED injuries, but they don't say "oh he's got a blister or a hangnail" and then a few weeks later "by the way he needs tommy john surgery, sorry guys."
  5. brantley is just a dumb redneck who should not be analyzing baseball games for anybody.
  6. can we just lock this thread since there's no evidence of anything other than a blister?
  7. if the pitcher can do what valverde does, than a hitter should be able to showboat a little bit. if the pitchers can throw at a player who showboats, the batter should be allowed to throw his bat at the pitcher who celebrates a strikeout.
  8. seriously, and carlos zambrano is one of our pitchers. every team has at least one or two players who showboat; get over it.
  9. howry has at the very least performed up to the amount of his contract, and probably has outperformed it. Not sure how you can figure that. He's very much on pace to absolutely suck for 33% of the contract's duration. and the other two years he was one of the better setup men in the league. bp projected his numbers this year at: 62.0 IP, 59 H, 17 BB, 51 K, .281 BAA, 1.22 WHIP, 3.64 ERA. they put the free-market value of these numbers at $5.1M. given that he pitched more innings than this the last two seasons and was more effective than the numbers above, he probably pitched at a level of about $7M each year. his entire contract is worth $12M, so even if you think he's had negative value this year (and he hasn't), he's still earned more than the $12M that the cubs will have ended up paying him. it's like if derosa tanks the rest of this year and next, the contract that he got will have still been worth it because he produced at a high level for more than half of it. by the way, maybe the reason that howry's decline has been pretty ugly is because he's pitched in 241 games the last three seasons? that's basically half of all of his team's games. his managers have ridden him hard, and they might have taken too many miles off of that arm.
  10. howry has at the very least performed up to the amount of his contract, and probably has outperformed it.
  11. there's probably a 60% chance of storms every day on the florida peninsula this time of year.
  12. they should really be letting him play more.
  13. i would like to change my vote to "split"
  14. phew... that was the worst pitching matchup of the series as far as we were concerned, so it's nice to steal it. great win.
  15. no ned yost made sabathia throw almost 130 pitches. he'll be lucky if he still has a left arm by october.

  17. now that you mention it, he does look rather portly. perhaps a change of diet would serve him well.
  18. Cub fans cheered when YoGa got injured in Chicago. yeah like 3 of them, the rest applauded when he got up and walked around.
  19. and blake gets nothing for being a bad umpire and acting confrontational. way to go mlb... give him a hearty raise in the offseason, too!
  20. yeah, pie is a no-brainer because even if he doesn't start, he can pinch run and be a defensive sub. that diving catch by edmonds to end the game yesterday, pie probably makes that without even laying out.
  21. you're assuming that he'd get playing time, which is not a good assumption
