  1. here's a tip - if you find yourself thinking that the umpires are screwing over the cubs in just about every game, chances are that your bias is a bigger problem than the guy behind the plate.
  2. You do realize that the camera being off center affects your ability to see the exact strike zone, right? i'm guessing that his cub homerism plays a larger role in his inability to see the strike zone.
  3. he's fine there, but he wore down badly last year, and lou does not seem to have learned his lesson. theriot should play very sparingly the rest of the regular season.
  4. felipe lopez - released by nationals, batting cleanup for the cards
  5. i'm not really sure why he was gonna start anyway. he started 5 games in a row, including an extra-inning day game after a night game. the division is sewn up, basically. give the guy plenty of rest.
  6. The people I hear from out here feel the opposite way, they get mad when Lincecum gets pulled. The radio people get very excited about this. that's because a lot of fans are morons.
  7. up to 40th! i'd be in 2nd place if i hadn't changed pitchers :x danny cabrera's return to earth has helped a lot though. contreras getting hurt has been a killer. michael bourn has been incredibly awesome, and kudos to tony pena for continuing to be the worst ss despite having about 40% as many ABs as the rest of the contenders.
  8. yeah this is why cecil cooper never should've made those comments, because it just encouraged his players to make excuses too.
  9. Oh my lord. Incredibly difficult? He works 3 hours a day 150 days a year talking about baseball. Give me a break. this isn't necessarily true. there's the pre-game show as well as all the prep work done off air. like a sports talk radio host, they might only be on air for 15-20 hours a week, but i suspect they spend at least that much time preparing off air as well. santo is probably a guy who flies by the seat of his pants rather than preparing a bunch of stats and analysis, however.
  10. <3 ronnie, hahahahaha
  11. i was at the bar last night and the cubs game was on, a girl at my table said "who is that fat guy hitting?" i didn't even need to look at the tv to answer "prince fielder"
  12. only the highest obp on the team, WHAT A LOSER
  13. at least it's not an itching, burning sensation
  14. yeah pujols has monster numbers and while his team isn't going to make the playoffs, he's the main reason that they were even in contention for much of the year. he should win this year.
  15. way to go chris cooley
  16. boy i don't think he's a great poster, but that ban seems a little excessive.
  17. from fred... when you get 1.5 more guys on base per game via the walk than you did 2 years ago, your offensive production is gonna go way up. lou has been an upgrade over dusty in just about every way imaginable, except for ability to fish and chew on toothpicks, while hendry has made much better personnel decisions over the past couple of years, but nothing is more important than this organization's epiphany that getting on base is a good thing.
  18. santo is a cheerleader who wears his heart on his sleeve. i think he's a lot of fun to listen to, just because you don't usually hear people in broadcasting who you know are into it just as much as you are. there's a big difference between hawk and santo, being that hawk is the one who is doing play by play. he's telling the viewer at home what is going on, and those people are almost never homers to the extent that he is. he's also extremely unprofessional when his team is faring poorly; santo will moan and go "awww man" but he won't just sit there not saying anything. as for santo and the hof, i hope to be taking a weekend off next summer to drive up to cooperstown.
  19. the mets missing the playoffs wouldn't be stunning, nor would arizona. i'm not sure where the mets peaked as far as playoff probabilities, but it was probably not much more than 80%. arizona had a nice lead early, but they've been mediocre since the hot start and never got enough of a cushion to have a real high probability. the brewers, on the other hand, got as high as 96% to make the playoffs. if they miss the playoffs, that will be one of the top 10-15 collapses in history.
  20. the cubs have less than a 1 in 1000 chance of missing the playoffs.
  21. which years? he certainly didn't deserve it in 2001-04; barry bonds was easily the best player in the nl each of those season. he won it in 2005, but derrek lee had a better season. in 2006 he was probably a little better than howard, but his team didn't make the playoffs and howard did have an awesome year, so that could've gone either way. last year he had a bit of an off year; there were a handful of guys who deserved it more than him. so really, you can say that he deserved it probably only one year. blame barry bonds' steroid abuse for him not winning 4 mvp's, not the voters. ted williams only won 2 mvp's and probably should've won like 8. he didn't win the mvp when he hit over .400 in 1941 (with a 1.288 ops!) and didn't win it the next year when he won the triple crown.
  22. lol @ anthony hewitt: 33 games, 23-117, 7 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 BB, 55 K, .197/.256/.299,.555 good luck with that, phillies.
  23. just call him fatty or fatso or fatass instead.
