    i love late spring games when it's the regular 25 man roster, a couple of guys fighting for the last spot or two, then a bunch of guys who are in rookie ball. kyle reynolds and drew rundle just got in the game for the cubs, and some pitcher named waddell got an out.

    the guys i considered at my wild card: wieters - will be in the minors too long during the first half the uptons - does b.j. rebound and find the power that he had? does justin break out this year? nelson cruz - having a nice spring - i picked him and am hoping that his shortened swing means he is finally ready to hit in the bigs lastings milledge - home park hurts him a guy that nobody picked, but was actually my second option, was russell branyan. he's expected be in a platoon at 1B for the m's, and yes he strikes out a ton, but he also will hit 20+ homers this year if he gets off to a decent start and gets most of the playing time against RHP.

    bradley is 3-3 (all singles) and is hitting .512 for the spring. kosuke is down to .100, on the other hand. harden has been pretty good (at least numbers-wise) except for a pair of homers.

    well they had lee at a warp of 3.5 last season. his 50% pecota projection has him at 2.8 warp, which pecota values at 5.425M. assuming that a win last year is worth about the same as a win this year, that would put lee's value at about 6.8M last season. so i'm thinking that nate silver would not agree with you, either that or he would tell you that the player projection system that he created is garbage.

    ok well i'm fairly confident you're the only one who believes that derrek lee was worth $13.7M last season, but i guess if that makes you happy then roll with it.

    he was healthy last year and he didn't. i've also come to the conclusion that fangraphs' player value is bogus and inflated.

    pecota puts his expected value at just less than $10M the next 2 years. that's total, not per year. generally if you get $9.8M worth of production and are paying $26M for that production, you have on your hands a bad contract.

    who's to say that (a) memphis can pay that price and (b) schools won't match what memphis offers?

    i'm pretty sure the acc has a team in the final four. also the big xii does not.

    Esteban German could probably do it as acceptably well as Miles. Especially considering he'd be getting paid $2 million less and for one less year. he can't play shortstop. well i suppose he can but he would basically do it as badly as mike fontenot.

    i don't really know how to play this game. are we deleting people and then spending their money more wisely on other guys? if so, i'd delete lee, soriano, fukudome, miles, bako, zambrano, dempster, vizcaino and gregg. however, if we delete them and don't have replacements for them then i probably wouldn't delete any of them, or maybe just a couple. even vizcaino has value if the manager keeps him away from LH batters with good pop. miles can back up theriot, which nobody else on the 40 man roster can really do acceptably. i guess i would delete lee, because i think hoffpauir can do almost as well as him and that would free up $10M to be used at the trade deadline.

    i don't think there's a good chance of that at all. except for the broken wrist year, lee has been very durable, and ramirez has missed an average of 16 games the last 3 seasons. there's a good chance that a couple of those guys will miss significant time, but really it's pretty unlikely that lee and ramirez miss a significant chunk of the season.

    may have had something to do with cabrera and do we still think miller is even that good? Considering his history, potential, and lack of major league service time, yes. They're really going to regret trading Maybin, though. they might, if maybin ever cuts down his strikeouts. right now i see him as a future mike cameron, which really isn't bad at all, but not someone that i'd lose sleep over if i ended up with miggy cabrera in return.

    I think he's better at golf than anyone is at anything in their lives. Except maybe Warren Buffett. And Geovany Soto. warren buffett lost like $20 billion last year.

    what, he might leave early to play in poland? he won't have a good NBA career, but that doesn't stop players from leaving early. i just don't think singler will be able to fool people into believing he'll be a decent nba player, a la mike dunleavy

    possibilities in the nsbb bracket: michigan st over unc: TrannyTiger 1st, Tar Heels Cutting down the nets 2nd, Me 3rd michigan st over nova OR nova over mich st: Tranny 1st, Tar Heels 2nd, Me/Louky tie for 3rd uconn over unc: Voice of Reason 1st, Thanks Sampson You A-Hole 2nd, Tar Heels 3rd uconn over nova: Horny for Darrin Horn 1st (currently in 21st), Thanks Sampson 2nd, Illini Iceman 3rd nova over uconn: Tranny 1st, voice of reason 2nd, Tar Heels 3rd unc over mich st: Tar Heels 1st, Me 2nd, Voice of Reason 3rd unc over uconn: voice of reason 1st, Tar Heels 2nd, Me 3rd. Unfortunately, the most likely final (UNC vs UConn) guarantees a Voice of Reason victory, which nobody wants.

    well i just found out that if mich st beats uconn i win my pool no matter what, so i can root for that and root for villanova also. if unc wins the title over uconn i get 2nd, and if villanova beats uconn in the final or uconn wins the title, i get jack squat. needless to say, i've become a huge michigan st fan.
