  1. most of this team has been bad this year (though a lot of idiots are just pinning it on bradley) and lou has been no exception. i kinda wish he'd just go away.
  2. 20.57? i think usain bolt walks the 200 in that speed.
  3. which cities has he been run out of?
  4. yeah scales is pointless. at least seeing colvin against major league pitching would be somewhat interesting.
  5. unfortunately their farm system is still trash and ed wade is still their GM. good luck with that.
  6. who booed derrek lee his first year as a cub?
  7. this guy makes cubsGM look like a great poster.
  8. final standings: GRB lazy bums 139 95 8 .591 -- No Teasin Just Pleasin 124 99 19 .552 9.5 Kathleen Turner Overdrive 126 103 13 .548 10.5 Hendry's Misfits 129 106 7 .548 10.5 Shoulda Started Wegman 123 105 14 .537 13 GRB thrillz 113 114 15 .498 22.5 GRB ICE 112 116 14 .492 24 Team Black 106 116 20 .479 27 GRB Chundermonkeys 86 141 15 .386 49.5 Don't F*** with DeJesus 82 145 15 .370 53.5 i don't know who the last GRB team was. i beat GRB lazy bums last week in the semifinals and play KTO in the finals.
  9. i wouldn't call snead less proven. some people think snead could be better than bradford.
  10. washington, the #24 team in the country, is a touchdown underdog to stanford. that pretty much tells you that they shouldn't be ranked.
  11. I would like this quite a bit, but unless somebody will take Milton's salary, we probably can't afford $10 million. i don't see anyone giving mike cameron $10M to play CF as a 37 year old. he might get something like $6-8M.
  12. Why would he need a platoon partner? He's hitting .283/.377/.547 against lefties this year. Only 62 PA's, so small sample size, but I think he'd be fine against lefties. he hit .276/.360/.385/.745 in his minor league career against lefties, which really isn't good since he played in hitter's parks (modesto, tulsa, c-springs) his entire minor league career. he's been fine this year, but i suspect he'd be a lot more productive if paired with someone who hits lefties well. nonetheless, i've warmed to your homer ole miss idea. now sell jim hendry on it. :D
  13. the park certainly helped, but he was still really good. he's shown he can get hot and putu p big numbers. the problem is, most years he doesn't get that hot. also, iirc milton had a ridiculous babip last season I do think there is something to the whole "contract year" phenomenon. Not just with Milton, but with tons of other guys as well. There is not. Adrian Beltre says hi. i can only assume with this post that you are indicating your support for the idea that the contract year phenomenon is a myth. after all, adrian beltre was relatively productive - not great, but pretty good - for the last three years, but is in a contract year this season and is having the worst year of his major league career. that's what you were getting at, right?
  14. looks like the new stadium did not work. better build a new one.
  15. was not aware of that, but wrigley is fairly snug and you don't have to apply the coors discount to hawpe's numbers, i would think that being a virtual lock for something like .290/.380/.500/.880 would make him well worth the $17.5M in 2010-11, even with lousy defense. what about OMC's suggestion of seth smith. he'd need a platoon partner (and that would make two OF needing platoons), but in his minor league career he hit .318/.381/.532/.913 against RHP and is at .309/.391/.524/.914 against major league righties. seems to me the rockies wouldn't demand a whole lot in return, and he'd provide cheap production against RHP.
  16. i forgot the cubs were even playing today.
  17. here are the free agents this offseason, according to cot's. asterisk means the player has a 2010 option - either team, player or mutual. mike cameron isn't a bad player and still can play a solid CF. marlon byrd has randomly become a passable MLB player, but he's probably getting a lot of help from the ballpark at arlington. nady had tommy john a couple of months ago - one would think that means he'd be very cheap, given that he hardly played this year and is recovering from injury.
  18. well there you have it folks, none of us are GMs so there's really no point in discussing any of this. shut it down, tim.
  19. hawpe is very good but looking at their salary situation - they dealt away holliday and have marquis coming off the books next season - i suspect that they will keep hawpe around and shop some of their other guys. upton has been so up and down... he has a wealth of natural talent but has really taken a step backward this year, and if there really are people questioning his effort, i don't see hendry having any interest after the fiasco of bradley. burrell is a terrible fielder and hasn't hit at all this year, and he's only played LF in his career. tampa would probably give him away for nothing but i think i'd rather have nothing than burrell in return for bradley. also extremely lousy at baseball. his ops the last two years is a sterling .635. i'd rather roll the dice with sam fuld.
  20. right but we already have a thread where people are arguing about whether we should keep milton and his bad attitude or deal him away, so when i started this thread i specifically said to assume that he would be dealt and therefore we have a hole in the OF. i'm trying to make this an intelligent baseball thread rather than the clusterf*** that the other thread has become.
  21. wow little did we know during that miami-fsu game that we were watching the two best teams in the nation.
  22. wait, what? you mean keep bradley, or go with an in house option for rf? because that sounds terrible. I'd keep Bradley. ok that's not what we're doing in this thread though.
  23. i don't see the d'backs having another reasonable option at SS - i'm no expert on their system, but their backup is augie ojeda, who sucks and is old, and their highest-rated SS coming into this season (by BA) didn't hit much at low A this year. so with that information, and drew being a solid young player, i assume they'd demand castro in a deal along with one or two other good prospects. Would you really have qualms about dealing Castro as a centerpiece in a Drew deal? probably not, although i like castro quite a bit. it seemed like in some other threads people were assuming we could take a dump in a box and give it to the mets for jose reyes; i guess i was just saying that to get stephen drew we'd probably have to deal castro and maybe something like carpenter and guyer.
