flyers waived randy jones today... just terrific news. that probably means he'll either get picked up by someone (unlikely given his bad contract) or will start the year in the minors so his contract doesn't count against the cap, and we can start the season with van riemsdyk and pyorala in the lineup.

and you're a michigan fan. your posting history makes this pretty obvious. it's fine but let's not lie about our loyalties here. as for the anthony thomas fumble, maybe it was a facemask but the ball was out before any facemask would have occurred. and i like how you play off the rocky harvey like having to drive another 40 yards doesn't matter. also, feel free to provide examples of where michigan was boned over by the refs.

by the way the weather is horrible here. i went out and tailgated and it has been light to moderate rain for several hours. it is going to be a slopfest tonight... do not like.

why not? it's been happening for years. i'm just too tired of pointing it out to even get annoyed. if you play michigan in ann arbor you have to overcome the home-field officiating. i just wish it worked against them when the went on the road. it's not a problem for any specific team in the conference; everyone gets screwed against them.

larussa, torre and cox are all no-brainers. and i don't think torre is a great manager, but if you win the fourth-most games of all time and have at least four rings, you really have to be in. -

Well that makes no damn sense. There are thousands of outstanding baseball players, football players, and basketball players who are playing pickup games because they couldn't accept the discipline necessary to fit into a team situation and follow some simple rules like play hard, shut up, show up, show up on time, and show respect your team mates and coach. i don't think wal-mart is going to put someone angry by the doors to greet patrons with a hearty "[expletive] you" -
emery was very good against the devils. he's a pretty good player when he's not making his teammates want to beat his ass. hopefully he learned something from his year in russia. one interesting thing during the preseason has been whether james van riemsdyk (#2 overall pick in 2007 draft, behind kane) will make the team. most people assumed he'd start in the AHL but he's been excellent in the preseason and might be forcing his way into a spot. i'm hoping that they give him and another new guy (mika pyorala) a chance and stop giving useless goons like riley cote so much playing time. we also need to cut down on the stupid penalties; that's been a big failing of john stevens since he became head coach.

i suspect that ARam's decision will have more to do with whether he can get $30.6M over 2 years on the open market than whether cubs are winning or losing in 2010.

why is this even relevant? he suspended him with pay because he didn't have a choice. if he'd tried to suspend him without pay it would've been overturned by the players' association in about 15 seconds. -
got an e-mail from cubs.com today with the following subject line: good thing they said regular season, in case of the 0.026% chance that they make the playoffs.

if you're into the contrarian thing, south carolina (+4.5) and nevada (+7.5) are pretty much must-play games. maryland (about even) also looks like a good play.
