  1. that's... disturbing.
  2. This morning on Mike and Mike, Olney was on and said that the Braves were trying hard for a while now to dump Derek Lowe's contract. Nobody would bite, though, so they shipped out Vazquez instead. i would have taken derek lowe for milton bradley in a heartbeat.
  3. this is a very valid point.
  4. this is impressive - pedro, from his last year as an expo through all of his years as a red sock, had a QS% of 76 and an average game score of 65. i was also surprised to see that he had 36 games in 1997-99 where he threw more than 120 pitches, or 12 per year. no wonder his arm started falling off later in his career. not to say that other guys haven't done that sort of thing - clemens threw 25 games of 120+ pitches in one year alone (!!) - but pedro wasn't exactly built like a workhorse.
  5. he had 174. he was slowed by injury in 2004 and 2005, only pitched 17 games in 2001 (not sure why) and was epically bad in 2000. his 2000 still makes me laugh; the rest of his career he's been outstanding but that year he was worse than awful.
  6. i suppose this is true, since recently the way the braves have liked to play the game is without outfielders who possess the ability to hit.
  7. utley gets great jumps on batted balls, doesn't make many errors and is very smooth on the double play turn. if your impression of him is based on his defense in the playoffs, you're definitely going to underrate him. he got in a slump and made some uncharacteristic mistakes.
  8. that's why i thought pujols was a poor choice, he didn't play 1B early in his career. i probably would've picked helton because he's nearly as good defensively and played the entire decade at the position. i don't know why utley is a bad choice. who would you suggest has been much better over the course of the decade?
  9. yeah i don't get the outrage either.
  10. yep, but it was mccabe that fought him. duco got in a fight and mcintyre has skated around the ice a couple of times. at this point i don't even know what should be done with the flyers. they fired a bad coach and that hasn't worked. the roster is very talented with the exception of the goalie; boucher isn't playing well but they're losing a lot of games while scoring no goals or one goal. they have a lot of long-term contracts to guys who are still supposed to be good (richards, carter, hartnell, gagne, pronger, timonen). i guess at this point i wouldn't be against trading carter since he would bring a good return. hartnell is overpaid and we wouldn't get that much for him.
  11. apparently that's a trend among the flyers. there were rumors, and they were basically confirmed by a friend whose husband works within the organization, that eric lindros banged rod brind'amour's wife.
  12. nobody's watching the fresno st-wyoming game? yeah i'm not either.
  13. relief pitchers ACTUALLY serve a purpose on a MLB roster, all DH does is waste spot for somebody who deserves said spot. this argument has so many holes i don't know where to begin.
  14. as if it's not bad enough that the flyers are playing like crap, now goalies are standing on their heads against us. we actually played well the last two games but fleury was great on thursday and we lost in a shootout, and now lundqvist made 37 saves and gave up only 1 goal. hartnell is playing like garbage and carter has been lousy for over a month. [expletive] this.
  15. there is just about a zero percent chance that carlos silva would strike out 6 men per 9 innings. as for the other numbers, he'd have to be better than he's been in at least 4 years, so good luck with that. he's probably going to be awful because he always had mediocre stuff and now has started getting hurt and fat. it will be surprising if he can even perform as a league-average 5th starter, so if that's not going to happen, the best thing will be for him to be horrendous in spring training and get released.
  16. champions league draw: AC Milan v Manchester United Porto v Arsenal Lyon v Real Madrid CSKA Moscow v Sevilla Bayern Munich v Fiorentina Inter Milan v Chelsea Olympiakos v Bordeaux Stuttgart v Barcelona
  17. oh man that would be hilarious if pinkel and anderson just had a temper tantrum and quit because the school left the big xii for another conference.
  18. that seems like a horrible way to commit suicide.
  19. TEXAS? Them and Oklahoma are pretty much the center pieces of the Big XII and plus it wouldn't make any geographical sense anyways. The nearest schools to Texas that are in the Big Ten are literally over 1,000 miles away. i would bet my house that at least one of iowa city, bloomington and champaign are less than 1,000 miles from austin. granted they're a long way from there, but i doubt it's quite 1,000.
  20. need 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR. options are: RB: chris johnson (no brainer), ray rice, deangelo williams, jason snelling, justin forsett WR: desean jackson, santonio holmes, sidney rice, vincent jackson pretty sure i'm going witih johnson and r. rice at RB and the jacksons at WR. to me, s. rice, forcett and d. williams are kind of a toss-up at the flex spot. also, would you go fred davis, ben watson or greg olsen at TE?
  21. pretty shocking, i didn't know he had any off-the-field issues.
  22. bad-hitting pitchers getting hits is pretty awesome. on the other hand, it's pretty un-awesome when the team you root for gives up hits to bad-hitting pitchers.
  23. a lot of guys end up rising because they look great at the combine and do well in interviews. locker strikes me as a guy who would look awesome throwing to a bunch of uncovered receivers at the combine, then ace the interviews and have that "fierce competitor" label.
  24. clausen's draft stock should drop because of that photo.
