  1. that pisses me off that jacobellis fell in the semi-finals. we suck at [expletive] like nordic skiing and curling so we invented snowboarding, and now we can't even win a medal or make the finals in that??? time to invent some new sports that the world doesn't know how to play.
  2. andrus was .298/.366/.425/.791 at home and .238/.294/.325/.620 on the road. playing half his games in a hitter-neutral park he would've been worse than his .267/.329/.367 line.
  3. My initial impression as well. Have a chance to get two points? He'll screw it up and get one. Have another chance to get two points? Not only screw it up but allow Germany to get a point as well. yeah he has been bad and germany was also really lucky in the third end... guy completely missed his shot and got two points.
  4. ozzie smith's defense was way better than vizquel's, though.
  5. shuster sucks.
  6. michigan probably brings the most to the table, so voting for them makes no sense whatsoever.
  7. if alan trammell is only getting 25% of the HoF vote then omar vizquel should get about 3 votes total.
  8. is that draft time set in stone? i'm going to a concert that night.
  9. it's always nice to get a reminder every 4 years about how boring figure skating is.
  10. Did Slovakia show up? Loving the biathlon today, couldn't imagine hitting a target that small breathing that hard. The women's mogul last night was great!! This is turning out to be a fun Olympics because an american won the women's mogul and the biathlon is the same thing as every other winter olympics?
  11. i saw today that toronto is killing penalties at a 71.4% rate. that is incredibly bad. one other thing that stood out to me was that washington has 3.92 goals per game, and the next-closest team is at 3.19.
  12. i didn't really read the ranking standards, but it seems to me that the lions (9 playoff appearances, 1 playoff win in 40 years) should be below a team like jacksonville (6 playoff appearances, 2 playoff wins in 15 years).
  13. no discussion of why wayne gretzky looked like he was going to [expletive] his pants last night? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/poolboybob/gretz.jpg
  14. northwestern's endowment is about 5 or 6 times larger than schools like michigan st and iowa. the difference between the academic impact of northwestern and most other big ten schools is pretty damn big.
  15. a friend of mine (maryland fan) destroyed his tv during that game.
  16. being a Sabres fan, whose team gave up a 2nd round pick for him last February, I cannot. i guess i shouldn't say he sucks - i mean, he's good enough to be on an nhl roster - but he's basically your standard 3rd/4th line player... solid defense, scores an occasional goal, decent skater. but really, these guys are a dime a dozen and can be signed on the open market for a million bucks each offseason. hell the flyers had one (blair betts) in training camp as a non-guaranteed invitee and he made the team and gets good minutes on the 4th line and PK. but there's no reason to deal a second round pick for a guy like that.
  17. johnsson is a nice pickup for the hawks. i haven't seen him as much since he left the flyers but i get the sense that he's roughly the same player. he moves the puck really well, good passer, very smooth skater. occasionally he makes a bonehead play defensively but generally he's very solid positionally. he's smallish and not very physical, so he can get pushed around. but as long as you don't make him the guy who's supposed to clear the front of the net on the PK, he'll do well. we have timonen who is basically a better version, but i liked johnsson and would have liked to see him stay. add in a pretty good prospect and i think the hawks have done really well to keep their team strong for this season while clearing some cap space and picking up a potential good piece for the future. was my favorite goal of his as a flyer.
  18. someone explain to me why montreal would give up a second round pick for dominic moore? he sucks.
  19. hey that is a legitimate publication, they have insight from bruce miles and pat hughes in cubs anal.
  20. hccf doesn't see the problem with the okc team's name.
  21. michigan state and i guess indiana. northwestern gets to stay because of location and academics.
  22. yeah that only made sense if you're someone who has an irrational hatred of kansas basketball.
  23. yeah there is no way i'm watching that video. at least throw some [expletive] padding around that steel pole.
  24. the pac 10 has a number of good schools academically - stanford being the best by a pretty large margin, and a better school than any of the big 10 schools - but they also have a few schools (the arizonas and oregons, probably washington st too) that would be the worst academic school in the big 10. this may be true because of baseball, volleyball and swimming. the big ten has pretty high level non-revenue sports though. this is true. this wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for texas, because they've still got the academics problem. arizona, arizona st and tcu have lousy academics. texas is a much better fit with schools like cal and stanford for academics and good non-revenue athletics.
  25. Overall they have a lot, but compared to the football program they have very little. However baseball has a sweetspot being the most dominate sport at the university. The AD does seem to take all of the programs very seriously from tennis to volleyball to swimming/diving. They won't make the move just for the better good of the football program. I would love to see this move force the school to adopt a Men's Soccer program since Title IX killed that in Texas as a whole. yeah the idea of texas as a worthy opponent in women's volleyball is very cool to me. plus i would love to go to austin to see penn state football. texas seems like a school with big aspirations - as evidenced by their academic and athletic standing. there are too many schools in the big xii that just seem happy to exist.
