  1. You seriously have to just be trolling/trying to be contrarian on purpose. What? Who is better than Grabow the Cubs could have? It was one game, give the guy a break. Yes he blew the game, but the offense didn't do their part. Grabow should not have been in. Marshall/Caridad/Russell would have all been better choices. marshall is probably better but was already out; caridad and russell have next to no major league experience and less-than-overwhelming minor league stuff. i have to agree with wilson here; there just aren't many good pitchers in the bullpen and when you're trying to get three scoreless innings out of a collection of not-very-good options, a lot of the time you're going to fail.
  2. You all realize most projects have this team around .500, and you can subtract one win from any early season projects thanks to the 0-2 start. i don't think that's how it works
  3. Are you ever right? I was right when I called ballgame in the 2nd inning on Opening Day. And Soriano got a fluke hit. One hit does not a slump break. 1-for-7 to start the season does not a slump make.
  4. unfortunately strike two was a ball, but let's be honest, the cubs weren't going to win.
  5. what are norm charlton and terry mulholland up to these days
  6. there is pretty much zero chance that fontenot could hit wagner... that had better be baker.
  7. indeed. if you give almost $4m a year to a middle reliever, you should have a lot more confidence in them than anybody has in grabow.
  8. Who is the owner of that glorious beard in your sig? jayson werth, he came to spring training looking like he was homeless. it's gone now. plus i kinda love werth as a player, he's a great hitter who sees a ton of pitches, has good power, fields well and runs well.
  9. i was gonna say they must be doing the wave, there's lots of cheering and yelling for no reason whatsoever.
  10. There's never been a pitcher who was so good at missing bats that had such a hard time missing bats. He puts up some wacky lines, that's for sure. i was just kidding, gameday was wrong about him getting out of the inning. he issued two more walks and was taken out. his final line was 3.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 8 K, 1 HBP, 90 pitches/52 strikes. that's one bad thing about harden, he's so tough to hit and his control is always marginal, so his pitch count is always going to be high and that leads to a taxed bullpen. that and he gets hurt all the time.
  11. harden has 80 pitches through 4 innings - 1 hit, 1 run, 1 hbp, 3 bb, 8 k. we saw a lot of that last year.
  12. did he say it's a good read while you're on the can?
  13. watching the free mlb preview on tv... can't say i'm too upset about missing those luna commercials most of the year.
  14. What was he supposed to do there, exactly? don't take a lead and not move.
  15. i foresee some heavy FCC fines in the marine corps' future.
  16. Yes, they do. That's why I hate seeing guys who K 6000 times a year. all those rally-killing strikeouts by howard, werth, utley and burrell were the undoing of the 2008 philadelphia phillies world series championship.
  17. to me (1) have fun and erase the stain of milton bradley, (2)-(1000) everything else
  18. my opinion about the cubs is pretty much immaterial. there's no reason to rush a 20 year old who doesn't walk and has no power to replace a guy who is adequate. wait 2 months and don't burn an arbitration year on a guy who will be getting rushed and may not even be as good as the guy currently playing shortstop. if this was mark prior or jason heyward then sure, call him up. but he's not nearly that good calling him up now may well harm his future development.
