  1. i don't think he's good but who knows, maybe he got laser eye surgery or made some big adjustment to his swing to become a better hitter. his performance last year was legitimate - not a lot of luck involved. it's possible that he'll cool off and/or the league will figure him out, but it's also possible that he just made a breakthrough.
  2. peoria and daytona are both being shut out. their offenses have been putrid so far.
  3. side note on dempster, before you talk about 2008 being some remarkable performance that was completely out of line with anything he's ever done, please note that his 2009 was basically the same year but with less luck. his babip was unusually low in 2008, his HR/FB rate lower than normal, his LOB% was pretty high. in 2009 he had a lower BABIP against by .020 even though his LD% was lower and he induced more pop-ups. maybe it's a factor of worse defense last year or maybe it's just bad luck, but neutralize things and he was pretty much the same pitcher each year.
  4. What song is this? I watched the game on mute today at work. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/len-and-bob/2010/04/cubs-2010---the-baseball-project.html complete ear rape
  5. yeah. obviously it would be nice if dempster were better against lhp and he does lose control of his fastball sometimes, but he's pitched like a good #2 starter, which is basically what he's being paid. he's not making sabathia money ($23m), santana money ($22.9m) or halladay money ($20m) because he's not as good as them, but he's in the next tier. if you're going to get mad at someone, get mad at zambrano. he's the one who's paid like an ace and hasn't pitched that way.
  6. like it matters. they have dave duncan so i'm sure there will be another joel pineiro who puts together a big year (and then gets paid to stink next year by someone else).
  7. i feel sorry for you people who get wgn if the cubs keep playing that God-awful song all year.
  8. I don't get this either. But hey a line out DP and the game is over! I'm guessing home opener and off day tomorrow is the reason for this. plus the heart of a good lineup could come up and our bullpen sucks.
  9. us philly folk are just crazed bloodthirsty maniacs. mjohnson is right, if i were there he would either be dead or in a wheelchair right now.
  10. Someone needs to learn to post in the right thread.... :D lol i'm an idiot
  11. someone needs to learn some command on his fastball.
  12. hey dusty it's his second start of the year, don't work him too hard.
  13. hart, zaun, escobar is a really ugly half-inning
  14. four first pitches in a row put into play... seems we're playing dusty-ball again.
  15. twins opening day at home is on espn... new ballpark looks great
  16. that's usually where bad pitches to good hitters end up.
  17. facing the brewers' pitching staff will have that effect
  18. What song is everybody crying about? I am listening to the radio feed. yeah i don't get wgn... i'm going to have to hear this sometime. It's on Len and Bob's blog I think. thanks, just listened to it and it is truly [expletive] horrendous and embarrassing.
  19. generally i think doug melvin is a good gm, but perhaps he should put someone else in charge of signing free agent starting pitchers (davis, BLooper, suppan)
  20. What song is everybody crying about? I am listening to the radio feed. yeah i don't get wgn... i'm going to have to hear this sometime.
  21. about time... this guy can barely crack 80, scoring runs against this loser should not be [expletive] difficult.
  22. well we need help in the secondary, but all the really good safeties are gone and the next-best CB would be a bit of a reach. the D-line could also use some help, but i think we get better value at OL by picking anthony davis from rutgers. he could probably play guard and then move outside at some point.
