  1. THANK YOU LATROY HAWKINS
  2. Has to be. 96MPH fastball with movement and an absolutely unhittable slider. well marmol's H/9 IP is 4.81 since 2007; the next-best figure (minimum 150 IP) is 6.01. so it may be fair to say that he's the most unhittable pitcher in baseball.
  3. I'm thinking Macha new Lee was on the bench. then lee with his effed up thumb would've had to hit and then take the field, since either of the lefties he would be hitting for would be out of the game and nady would have to shift to OF. i'd rather do that then let a guy who's crapping the bed stay in the game longer.
  4. fun fact, lefties hit .178 against mitch stetter in 2009, and he hasn't pitched yet in this game... yet latroy hawkins was left in to face colvin, theriot and fukudome, two of whom bat lefthanded. just a bang-up job by ken macha.
  5. shades of september 2004, but this time latroy is screwing over a team other than the cubs.
  6. do the brewers not have another pitcher in the bullpen? this is great.
  7. haha the classic latroy 0-2 pitch that's way too hittable... can't say i miss that.
  8. geo looked good at the plate, though i suspect he's singularly at fault for the six runs allowed. koyie hill would've caught a shutout.
  9. he's had that affliction for quite a while now.
  10. perhaps it wouldn't matter, as many of our other guys suck, but i wouldn't think that a guy who pitched sparingly in spring training and had a couple of outings in iowa should be put into a one-run game to make his debut for the big club. lou will pitch his best guys with a one-run lead but it seems like he'll just roll anyone out there when the team is down one.
  11. welp this guy sucks, time to try another loser from iowa.
  12. too bad, i was hoping that zaun would go oh-for-the-season.
  13. hard-hit balls turning into outs are pissing me off. only the white sox have a worse babip... must be something in the chicago water.
  14. he and prince must do some serious damage to local buffets. good thing ruben quevedo isn't still around.
  15. to be fair, the bullpen probably would've given up some runs anyway. Then you make them give up runs instead of letting our 2nd-year major leaguer, who's had to work hard the last 2 innings, go over the 100 pitch mark for no real reason. oh i agree, but we saw it with dempster and now with wells, lou has no confidence in the pen so he's going to ride his starters longer than he should.
  16. to be fair, the bullpen probably would've given up some runs anyway.
  17. hopefully ryne doesn't read nsbb very often
  18. congrats to milton on his second and third hits of the season
  19. matt cerda was 3-3 with a walk for peoria... he seems to be the only guy there who's hitting well. he was supposed to have a pretty advanced bat, but didn't hit much in arizona and then only played 7 games with boise last year. it seems they've pulled the plug on the catcher experiment, as he's been playing mostly 3B for peoria.
  20. whitenack is having a good game - 6 ip, 4 hits (all singles), 0 r, 0 bb, 1 k, 15 GO/2 FO. he had a 67% GB rate last year, according to firstinning, so maybe that's his thing. if he can get that walk rate down, the lack of k's may not really matter. peoria's offense, meanwhile, continues to be awful.
  21. i noticed on sunday that when tiger woods hit a really bad shot, they had the mike on him and left it on for several seconds while he was barking at himself. if CBS is so concerned about people at home not hearing big-boy words, then how about not miking up the players or cutting the mike when a guy hits a bad shot. instead they just bitch and moan about tiger like they had no way of preventing that stuff from getting on tv.
  22. dye probably would have done well a couple of years ago, but defensive metrics have improved and GM awareness of defensive value has also come a pretty long way. people understand that his value as a hitter is greatly diminished by his horrible defense.
  23. I don't get this either. But hey a line out DP and the game is over! I'm guessing home opener and off day tomorrow is the reason for this. plus the heart of a good lineup could come up and our bullpen sucks. 8-9-1 if Berg can't get through those guys, why is he on the team? It worked just like the all right handed hitting line-up, but that doesn't mean it will next time. We've seen plenty of closers have terrible outings in non save situations. and we've seen plenty of times that closers came in during non-save situations and pitched an easy 9th inning, but nobody remembers those.
