  1. pens in 5, bruins in 5, wangs in 6 (sharks have to choke sometime, right?), yuck... before the season i made picks and this round i had vancouver playing (and beating) chicago, so i guess i'll say canucks in 7. will stick with my predicted final of pittsburgh vs vancouver until i'm proven wrong.
  2. i think we have the newest no-name turned cy young candidate for the cardinals - jamie garcia. and bad news on this one folks, he's under their control for a few more years.
  3. i could possibly see boston making it; they're pretty strong defensively and tuukka rask is really good. that would be pittsburgh's only excuse for not making it. they shouldn't have trouble with the habs and boston should beat what's left of the flyers at this point.
  4. i wonder if boudreau takes the fall for this. granted they got unlucky with some hit posts and ovechkin's rush squirting through the wrong way, but the caps aren't really built right to go the distance in the playoffs. you can't just have all your good players be finesse players. the caps cough up the puck way too easily along the boards and have had a terrible time generating sustained pressure.
  5. oh man 6-on-4, this is gonna be nuts
  6. yes and it failed miserably. the russians kept trying to stickhandle through canadian players who are way too talented to be beat that way; all the turnovers kept turning into odd man rushes and goals. i almost feel like montreal has had the better chances this period. they haven't had many but they've been good ones, like that post there.
  7. lol on that last rush the capital player (74) just let go of his stick and the montreal d-man was just standing there holding it for a split second. way to pay attention ref.
  8. 3 montreal sticks on every puck in the zone. plus the capital players keep skating the puck in and then they look shocked then they're surrounded by four habs. their entire team is back in their zone; how about a hard around the boards or a soft dump into the corner? they keep trying to do the same thing and it's not working. maybe it's not their style to dump and chase or muck and grind, but that's what they're going to have to do.
  9. sam rosen keeps blabbing about how many shots washington have, but how many are good chances? most are from the outside and unscreened.
  10. Lou allegedly unloaded on some reporter in the post-game for suggesting he have Fontenot bunt. that wasn't even the most egregious problem. he used two guys who haven't been hitting instead of two guys who have been hitting really well when it's very likely that he won't have another good chance to use pinch hitters. what a friggin dolt he is. can't believe he's making $4m this year when several NSBB members could do a better job.
  11. i don't think so. though break, but i think thats the right call. maybe you dont call that in the playoffs though yeah, it was the right call, but like you said, one you don't make in the playoffs they've made that call a few times in the playoffs. i think they make it because they think there's interference but they don't have the balls to call a penalty.
  12. they have to get rid of that rule. it needs to either be a penalty (player runs into the goalie on his own free will) or a goal (player bumped into goalie).
  13. no, my argument is that you're wrong about the wings being the best team left in the playoffs. also you're a wings fan so that might be hurting your ability to see this objectively. howard's stats are good because the wings always play a really good defensive system. osgood always had good stats and he was never that great.
  14. man washington just looks lousy. no sustained pressure, too many shots into the montreal D-men from outside. halak has made a few good saves but he hasn't really had to be that great. montreal is playing really good defense and washington doesn't seem to know what the hell to do about it. they really need to get some good play along the boards and start to cycle, but they're not really that type of team.
  15. lemahieu had better develop at least a little power or he's not going to be anything. he has 54 hits as a pro and all but 7 have been singles.
  16. you haven't? this happens almost every playoffs, a goalie plays out of his mind and keeps his team closer to the superior team than they should be. just off the top of my head, there was j-s giguere in 2003, kiprusoff in 2004, cam ward in 2006, hasek in 1999, roy in 1993 and hextall in 1987. and those are just the guys who got their team all the way to the finals.
  17. aramis' K rate is nearly twice his career average... the BABIP is really low but that's hardly his only problem.
  18. i have a good suggestion for the all star game: don't have it determine home field advantage in the world series.
  19. last year hamels' BABIP was .270 in 2008 and .325 in 2009. his xFIP last year was basically the same as it was in 2008 and 2007. good luck happened to him in 2008 and bad luck happened to him in 2009. this year the fly balls are going over the fence way too much (26% of fly balls coming into today's game) and since he struck out 10 guys in 6 innings, it would seem that he was victimized by bad luck again (since he allowed 9 hits).
  20. i would like to ask the same question about grady sizemore
  21. hawks, wings, whatever.
  22. Its all about Lous righty/lefty [expletive]. If the game was on the line vs. a RHP, and the 2 options were Albert Pujols and Paul Bako, Lou would shose Bako without thinking twice. Explain Xavier Nady plus (someone pointed this out in the game thread, i think) clippard has reverse splits (tougher against lefties) and that goes back to his minor league days. but God forbid lou get off his fatass and open a book to find that out; the guy on the mound throws with his right hand so let's send up the lefty without thinking about it for 2 seconds.
  23. the red wings are the best team in the west only if you've been living in a cave for a year. jimmy howard is average at best. their top defense pairing is a combined 76 years old and neither guy is as good as he once was. their third D pairing is pretty weak, cleary and bertizzi on a second line isn't going to scare anyone and their third and fourth lines are pretty meh. they're a good team but the sharks, wings and canucks are more talented IMO. (as well as the pens and caps)
  24. for some reason i'm afraid that the cubs see lou as a "proven manager" who will be given a ton of rope before they dump him. the organization just seems to have too high of a regard for him and blind to his terrible decision making during games.
  25. lou should absolutely be grilled by the press for how badly he managed that 8th inning. i accepted some of his idiotic in-game decisions when the players were performing well, but now most of the players aren't performing well and his managing is costing this team chances to win ballgames. time to fire his ass and replace him with someone who can motivate the players while making adequate in-game decisions.
