  1. The SEC does have some interest in Va Tech. While Miami, Ga Tech, Clemson, and Florida State have also been mentioned, from what my booster friend told me he's heard, the SEC doesn't think they add anything to the conference as far as expanding viewerships. If they want to keep up with what the Big Ten and Pac-10 are doing, the SEC feels it needs to expand into areas where they don't already have a foothold. Florida is already covered as is Georgia and South Carolina. Adding aTm would be huge in expanding into Texas and Duke and UNC would add North Carolina in addition to making the SEC a more lucrative conference when it comes to basketball. i understand the desire to expand into NC and texas. i don't know anything about the sec tv contract and whether it extends into south florida. gainesville is a long way from miami.
  2. and Duke would get less because they play Tennessee in football? i'm not sure if other schools have research-sharing and resource-sharing arrangements like the big ten. but your point may be valid - being in the same athletic conference hasn't stopped vandy from being a really good school and mississippi state from being a bad one, or stanford and cal-berkeley from being excellent academically and wazzu being kind of a joke.
  3. Texas would want no part of the academic situation in the SEC. fair point. but then why would duke (especially) and unc join the sec? those are good academic schools too.
  4. i've been really busy and not totally in touch with the situation, but i understand that aTm could be headed for the SEC. why wouldn't the SEC also go after texas? the longhorns would be a really good fit with the conference in terms of football and baseball.
  5. i think virginia tech would make more sense in the sec because they've got a strong football program. miami would be a good choice too.
  6. you're certainly giving chicago fans a good name.
  7. So they'd turn down millions of dollars and the chance to play in a better basketball conference because they are basketball schools? the sec sucks at basketball
  8. i don't know why you're trolling the flyers on a cubs message board, but to each his own.
  9. duke and unc are basketball schools and basketball schools are not leaving the acc.
  10. why the [expletive] are you walking the bases loaded with an erratic pitcher on the mound and a patient hitter coming up?
  11. lilly deserves the win but i'm generally rooting for the cubs to lose... so i'm torn here
  12. huh i didn't know that hurricane katrina hit houston two years ago
  13. pretty sure he was safe, but the ball beat him there.
  14. the blackhawks should leave the ballpark immediately, just in case the stink of the cubs and white sox could rub off on them.
  15. yeah that wasn't really all that close to being a strike.
  16. whoever said send huet to the minors was really thinking. there's no reason to be saddled with a $5m contract from a backup goalie. send him to the minors and you've got that money to play with.
  17. you should have watched the finals... he sucks. i don't know why you're goofing on laviolette about this, what's he supposed to say? that his goalie isn't good but he doesn't have a better option? he said what he could to give his guy confidence.
  18. yeah when you get beat in the same spot 30 times in one playoff series you probably grow familiar with the result.
