  1. this referee has been atrocious so far
  2. lol rondaldo
  3. tried to post BP's recap of the cubs first three rounds and got this multiple times:
  4. been looking forward to ivory coast-portugal... north korea is going to lose 15-0 later today
  5. rondo is awesome
  6. that would be great - the kansas state network. loyal viewership of 35 people.
  7. yeah kiwis!!! granted they're not going anywhere, but slovakia is now in big trouble.
  8. penn state beat nebraska 40-7, and i thought their fans were wonderful. they seemed really good-natured and friendly, and after the ass-whipping they said they hoped we'd come out to lincoln for the rematch in 2003.
  9. jackson hit a walkoff homer in the 11th inning, which also meant he hit for the cycle \:D/
  10. air force would be a complete disaster. they have rigorous academic standards and instead of leaving for the nfl after finishing college, you leave for afghanistan. schools like navy and air force can be competitive in second tier conferences but would get absolutely killed in the big xii or any bcs conference.
  11. boy the big ten and sec must be pretty irate about their tv deals if the big xii is getting almost the same amount of dollars per team.
  12. that's a big lose situation. possibly four big xii (now 10) games a week on fox? i'm sure they're going to do boffo ratings for texas tech at iowa state. let's be honest, besides texas and oklahoma, nobody is really tuning in from anywhere else in the country to watch big xii football unless a team like missouri or texas tech or oklahoma state is randomly good.
  13. yeah but it's not like they're getting all this extra money because CU and NU left... they're getting it because fox is desperate and apparently doesn't care if they lose many millions a year as long as they can put some college football on the air for a few months.
  14. one of the utah schools and boise st would have been a better solution, but i don't think boise st is really in a position to leave the conference it joined like three days ago. the idea of air force in a bcs conference is comical and should have been a red flag to anyone who heard that report.
  15. everyone's schedule would become tougher if the cubs disappeared, but that doesn't mean it would be economically good for major league baseball.
  16. adding a small service academy in fort collins to the bcs would have been hilarious. have fun getting kicked around by pretty much everyone in every sport except for shooting. talk about adding nothing to a conference.
  17. i love the conference dumping on nebraska and colorado like they were nothing. colorado has sucked at football lately but they were a pretty big deal in the '90s when they had kordell stewart et al. if they can get things turned around athletically, that loss will be a lot more important than dan beebe is making it sound.
  18. you downplayed the population of the denver area by saying that people don't care that much about CU sports, and then said that nobody lives in nebraska so it doesn't matter that their fans are rabid and fiercely loyal. pick one argument, not two arguments that contradict each other because you want to downplay two defections from the conference you like.
  19. Ehh. Nebraska hasn't been that important to college football in awhile. their $49M football profit last year (4th among all programs) would argue otherwise. they aren't great any more, but much like notre dame, they're still a big deal.
  20. I don't get what you are talking about. Neyer is the preeminent "good stats" guy in the media. And that article was about a grossly overpaid player who is going to be old and bad. That's not what have you done for me lately. That's just thinking realistically. i agree for the most part, but he probably should have given soriano more than a week of regular season play in 2010 before writing the obituary on his career.
  21. The Big 12 lost a TON of dead weight in Colorado, and a TON of basketball dead weight in Nebraska. The conference actually just got stronger and more difficult, especially for the B12 north teams in football. Now they'll play UT and OU every year as opposed to playing NU and CU. In terms of basketball, it's much harder all around. You will most likely play all teams twice as opposed to getting to play CU or NU twice (for north teams) and the south teams will now have to play KU, Mizzou, and the up and coming KSU twice instead of playing CU or NU once. Basketball RPI was just insured of going WAY up for an already top 2 year in and year out RPI conference. getting rid of iowa st and kansas st would have been getting rid of dead weight... they lost one of their largest media markets and their third or fourth most prestigious football program.
  22. espn is probably thrilled that fox is going to give what's left of the big xii an asinine television deal that will cause them to lose millions of dollars a year.
  23. Best one so far. a "friend" who is a gigantic italy homer is telling me that it's really obvious he got cleated in the heel... either i'm blind or he's imagining things.
  24. who's watching? The state of Texas and the other 14 people in the Big 12 footprint? No cable carriers will feel compelled to carry a Big 12 network outside of those areas. So are you telling me that if someone like Kevin Durant shows up at a school in this league again (which will happen), he's going to be broadcast nationally playing against EVERY school in the league. Now the lesser teams (not talking about KSU as our entire bball schedule was televised last year) like Baylor get broadcast nationally, and gets some exposure. People WILL watch that just to see someone like Durant. I get where you're coming from, but you can't be so short sighted about it. it's not just about kevin durant; the big ten network televises field hockey and soccer and volleyball and women's basketball. of course a men's basketball player who is the best player in the country is going to be a big deal, but people on the east and west coast and in the great lakes/ohio valley aren't going to want to pay an extra .75 to 1.00 to have the big xii network on their cable provider. the high profile big xii games (texas-ou, texas-kansas basketball, etc) are going to be broadcast nationally and nobody is really going to care if they miss out on ksu-baylor. the big ten network isn't included by most cable providers in the northeast and mid-atlantic states, and there are tons of big ten grads in those places.
