  1. agreed, but unfortunately i don't think we're quite bad enough to do it. still, i will be pulling for them to lose each and every game.
  2. boy i read your first two sentences and got really excited, thinking that you were actually making a post that didn't involve your irrational hatred for dempster. what a letdown.
  3. 2-4 with a walk for starlin... i consider this game a success.
  4. i think mitchell boggs has remembered that he's mitchell boggs.
  5. good point. pretty appropriate that the twins have significantly increased their payroll in the 2 seasons after he died. carl pohlad was the bill wirtz of baseball.
  6. And to think there were people throwing their name in with the Twins and Expos a few years ago with all that contraction nonsense. They have some really good people in their organization that molded all of those high draft picks into useful players. Other teams should model themselves after Tampa. speaking of which, how stupid was it to try to contract the twins? they've been traditionally successful as a small to mid market team, and now they have a new ballpark and a payroll near $100m. trying to contract the twins might have been the worst thing that selig has done as commissioner.
  7. wilson contreras was 1-3 with a triple and a walk today, but also made his 4th and 5th errors in 2 games. this guy sounds like a keeper.
  8. I thought Yahoo omitted a stolen base. How did that happen? yeah i was wondering the same thing
  9. every ball the brewers are putting into play turns into a hit... if the cubs didn't suck this would be really annoying.
  10. plus fielder is a whale and if you miss by just a little bit, you're probably going to hit him.
  11. i was going to say that they should trade shields since they're loaded at SP and he might be getting paid too much, but he's only due $4.25M in 2011 and $7M in 2012, which is very team-friendly. Still, they could use a guy like him or wade davis or garza (who got a $3M raise this year and will see more in 2011) to get some nice prospects back. hellickson is probably the best pitcher not in the majors and they have a handful of other guys (matt moore, jake mcgee, alex torres) who will be ready pretty soon. another thing they should probably do is shift at least one guy to the bullpen, rather than dropping a lot of cash on a "proven" closer. for a small/mid market team, tampa is in remarkably good shape. let's throw $10m a year at andy friedman and hope he takes it, haha.
  12. the brewers' babip in this game has to be like .900
  13. man this team is bad. berg, coleman and schlitter are all terrible. our bullpen this year is like the 2006 offense.
  14. Sadly, the above pretty well sums it up. The song is a little cheesy, but I liked Steve Goodman, he was a huge Cubs fan, so I vote it stays. Besides, they could have used his " Dying Cubs Fan Last Request" a much better song, but hardly the uplifting anthem you want your kids singing after the rare Cubs wins. i agree 100%, "a dying cub fan's last request" is awesome. the line about the cubs last winning a pennant the year we dropped the bomb on japan always makes me laugh. sadly, most of the things in that song (written like 30 years ago) still hold true today.
  15. very positive start from carpenter: 7 ip, 5 h, 2 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 8 k, 63 strikes/30 balls, 9 GO/2 FO. one would assume that he's done after 93 pitches and 7 innings.
  16. shocking that a guy who got by on deception in AAA is getting drilled by major league hitters.
  17. the problem is, most of the guys i thought had potential to be decent big-league relievers (gaub, stevens, parker) have all been lousy this year, and most of the guys who have been good in iowa have crappy stuff. david cales is the only guy at iowa who seems like a decent relief option right now.
  18. wallach got knocked around in the 5th and is now out. 4.1 ip, 7 h, 5 r, 3 er, 3 bb, 4 k, 1 wp. yuck.
  19. I guess at this point in the season, Id rather have a bunch of AAAers who have no business pitching in the majors than overpaying for a bunch of vets who have no business pitching in the majors, and lets face if Hendry doesnt offer run of the mill middle relievers market value, he prefers the multi year/multi million dollar approach. well yeah that was kind of my point. it's not like the cubs have a bunch of guys who are good but slumping - these guys are just bad. it's pretty clear that the organization misjudged how lousy their in-house options were... well that or maybe they just didn't care or had maxed out salary before the year.
  20. oh good casey coleman in to throw batting practice
  21. justin berg is not a major league pitcher. at all. in fact we've had a number of guys (berg, schlitter, atkins, samardzija) pitch for us who have no business pitching for a big league club.
