  1. man the nfc west is [expletive] terrible.
  2. At least New Mexico played a couple ranked teams plus Texas Tech. The only other winless FBS teams are: New Mexico State (good year for the state so far) has lost to San Diego State, UTEP and Kansas by 125-47. Akron lost to Syracuse, Kentucky and Indiana 111-33 plus lost to Gardner-Webb, a mediocre FCS team. Eastern Michigan lost to Army, Miami (OH), Central Michigan and Ohio State 184-82. And Washington State will probably be in the discussion by the end of the year. They lost to Oklahoma State, SMU and USC 150-54 plus nearly lost to FCS Montana State. On a related note, remember this Washington State team? Definitely the worst BCS team ever. last year's wazzu team was just as bad: -1-11 with the only win at home against SMU. -outscored 462 to 144 on the year -outscored in first quarters 176 to 6 and in first halves 308 to 50 (when other teams were presumably still trying) -outgained 6144 to 2983; outgained on the ground 2837 to 848 -outscored by pac 10 teams 357 to 80 let's compare that to 2008-09 and then add up the two years. 2008-09: -2-10 record -outscored 570 to 165 -outscored in first quarters 142 to 31 and first halves 305 to 71 -outgained 5764 to 3134; outgained on the ground 3219 to 1236 -outscored by pac 10 teams 453 (!!!) to 77 totals from the two seasons: -3-21 record -outscored 1032 to 309 (average final of 43 to 13) -outscored in first quarters 318 to 37 and in first halves 613 to 121 -outgained 11908 to 6117 (average ypg 496 to 255) -outscored by pac 10 teams 810 to 157 (average final score 45 to 9) looks like they are horrendous again this year. if there has been a I-A team worse than this in a three year span, i'd like to see them.
  3. that's pretty cool. but he still didn't crack 90 mph. by the way, imagine if a manager let a position player pitch in an mlb all-star game? these days there's no way it would happen (plus "now it means something" or whatever) this is a cool video with some of his throws/catches while playing OF in japan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfXRjE9vjYI
  4. i want ozzie just so the meatball sox fans have to choke on their rage. ok except then we'd have a bad manager, do you really want to screw over white sox fans that much?
  5. i wonder if dave eiland showed him how to give up only 1 run in 24 innings and a .226 BABIP while allowing 28 baserunners, a home run and 20.4% line drives. now THAT is a neat trick.
  6. 6-1... nice week
  7. [expletive] you cal and your shitty kicker
  8. I'd like to put a logo on her cheek, if you know what I mean. i also would like to ejaculate in her butt i think i know what you mean
  9. new mexico is down 42-7; if that's the final score then they will have lost their first four games by a combined score of 222 to 38. worst team in i-a football?
  10. c'mon cal, make me look smart for picking you
  11. she could've been a longhorn fan at the tennessee-uab game
  12. no kidding... they weren't great when glen mason was there but at least they were consistently decent. edit - and i hated glen mason because he would get good talent and do a decent job of game planning, but then would always get conservative with the lead and blow 2 TD leads in the 4th quarter.
  13. i'm watching the game w/o sound at work, is garcia hurt or something?
  14. ole miss has outgained fresno st on the ground 389 to -3
  15. if you combine ichiro's hits for orix with his hits for the mariners he'd have about 3,300 hits with no real signs of slowing down. if he'd started his career in the majors he'd very likely have more than that number since the japanese season is only 130 games or something. i'm pretty sure if he'd played in MLB his entire career he would have broken pete rose's record and had a decent shot at 5,000 hits.
  16. nate silver did a BP article detailing the biggest collapses in baseball history. the phillies barely cracked the top 10, because they were playing a strong schedule. i think their collapse was so memorable because they went on a 10 game losing streak and just played terribly for the last two weeks. some notable teams that had bigger collapses: -1978 red sox (96.5% to make playoffs on august 12th with an 8 game lead on the yankees - red sox went 26-22 the rest of the way while the yanks were 35-13) -1942 brooklyn dodgers (96.9% to make the playoffs; 79-33, 9.5 games ahead of the Cardinals. went 25-17 the rest of the way while the cardinals were 38-6, the second-best 44 game stretch in baseball history) -1969 cubs (97.90% on august 19th; 77-45 and 8 games ahead of the mets, went 15-25 down the stretch) -2003 mariners (97.91% on june 18th, 7.5 games ahead of the A's in the AL west and 8.0 games ahead of the red sox in the wild card; finished 45-47) -1993 giants (98.25% on august 7th, 74-47 and 9.5 games ahead of the braves, finished 29-22 but braves went 39-11) -1951 brooklyn dodgers (99.74% on august 12th, 73-36 and 12.5 games ahead of the new york giants, finished 25-24 while giants went 37-8) -2007 mets (99.8% on september 12th, 83-62 and 7.0 games ahead of the phillies; went 5-12 the rest of the way while the phillies went 13-4. what was notable about the mets' collapse is that they lost to some awful teams - they went 1-5 against the nationals during that stretch and lost 2 out of 3 in their last series against the marlins) -1995 angels (99.988% on august 20th, 66-41 and 9.5 games ahead of the rangers and 12.5 games ahead of the mariners in the AL west, 12.0 games ahead of the yankees for the wild card. finished 12-26. the odds of them missing the playoffs were 8,332-to-1)
  17. bets: minnesota carolina jacksonville arizona seattle miami chicago
  18. ok? they have a qb who arrived on campus like a month ago. temple went 9-4 last year and psu outgained them by more than 2:1 and would have won by a bunch if they hadn't settled for 35 field goals. they may go 4-4 in conference but that would have more to do with the conference being pretty good and deep this year rather than psu being "pathetic"
  19. In other words, unless the Twins mimic the 2004 Cubs. more like the 1964 phillies, 1995 angels or 2007 mets. the 2004 cubs melted down but that was nowhere near the worst choke.
  20. Just looking at the recent standings on ESPN.com, Detroit in 2003 was at -337 and they're the worst since 2002. the 1962 mets were -331, the 1996 tigers were -320 (they allowed 1103 runs, which is just unbelievably bad) and the 1916 philadelphia athletics were -329. undoubtedly the worst of all time is the immortal 1899 cleveland spider team that went 20-134. they scored 529 runs and allowed 1252, for a differential of 723 runs. they allowed nearly one run per inning and had a team WHIP of 1.88, to go along with 388 errors and a team OPS of .605. amazing.
  21. if you don't like this then you clearly hate fun.
  22. jose bautista has 52 home runs, 11 more than the the #2 guy (pujols). i assume everyone saw that coming, right?
  23. their bullpen was mediocre and blew a lot of close games (the biggest reason for the -5 between expected wins and actual wins) they had great SP, good defense, average hitting and a mediocre bullpen. a team like that can do well in the postseason, but the lack of patience and the lousy 'pen would probably have caused some problems.
