  1. yells at him about what, how to treat women the right way?
  2. i'm far too lazy to look it up, but i think that regular season bullpen quality was one of the few things that was correlated with winning in the playoffs. with lackey, arrieta and lester struggling recently, and hendricks not really a guy who goes deep into ballgames, the ability to put the boot down with three very good to elite arms from the 7th inning onward is extremely valuable. the cubs are also extremely deep in hitting, and torres is almost certainly going to be blocked by some combination of russell, zobrist, happ and baez by the time he's major league ready. the only part that really annoys me is that if you're okay trading for a butthole like chapman, then do it in the offseason when his value was really low. the package the yankees gave up to get him was relatively weak, and now they're getting back a top 50 prospect for 3 months of him. but really, nothing has changed. he's still an amazing pitcher and he's still a guy who beat his wife.
  3. But if he believes the playoffs are a crapshoot, Chapman raises the chances of winning by like 2 percent. If that. using that logic, very good teams should practically never make trades at the deadline for players who will be free agents at the end of the season.
  4. There's no such thing as a final piece to a World Series puzzle. I see Torres as almost entirely as a trade chip. Never pictured him playing for us really. But given his standing, he should be able to get us more than a rental on a (an insanely good one) reliever. meh, it's a seller's market given how many teams are in contention. plus the cubs' issue is that they now have a number of good to very good relievers (rondon, strop, edwards, montgomery, maybe grimm and wood), so making another marginal upgrade to a solid but not great reliever doesn't really add much value. they were at a point where they needed to either add an impact reliever or not make the bullpen trade at all. i guess we will see in the next few days whether it was an overpay or just a reflection of the market.
  5. also, tom ricketts hasn't given theo and jed permission to trade gleyber torres.
  6. that plus sign after torres could be a pretty big deal, although i wouldn't think so given that two months of a top 50 prospect is already quite a lot of value. chapman is one of the few big difference making relievers in baseball, so hopefully he doesn't beat up or shoot any women in the next three months, and we'll have an amazing bullpen for the playoffs.
  7. considering that nieuwenheis came into this game hitting .195, this should be dubbed the kirk nieuwenheis game.
  8. why the horsefeathers is he still a member of the cub organization?
  9. hit the ball hard either over the fence or to vacant grass please.
  10. It took me several hours to realize that this is the same Mike Montgomery who was a first round pick by the Royals like 30 years ago.
  11. Zobrist's terrible walk up music is much less tolerable when he's not hitting well.
  12. I don't totally mind Heyward going there, but once he's obviously going to end up in a run down, Russell just needs to get to third, because Heyward is screwed.
  13. Punishment in order of personal preference: 1. Entire organisation is contracted. 2. Loss of every draft pick for the next 50 years. 3. Indefinite postseason ban. 4. Forced to play Pete Kozma at SS for the next 10 years.
  14. Maybe we need to study some tape of how other teams pitch Wilmer Flores, since nobody else seems to have such a hard time getting him out.
