  1. hoilman seems to have extreme patience (24 bb, 31 k) and pretty good power so he's a good candidate to move up to peoria, but i don't know what they'd do with cuneo/rohan/jones. in other news, blair springfield was moved up to boise.
  2. More like 2 years of Cesar Cedeno's career. If he did that for 8 years, it would be hard to call it a disappointment. cedeno was top 7 in WAR among NL players for 5 consecutive years, to suggest that he was a bust or an average player would be a mistake. if he hadn't suffered so many injuries - playing half of one's games on the rock-hard Astrodome surface can't be good for a guy who runs a lot - he probably would've been as great long-term as everyone expected him to be. one can also hope that mike trout doesn't accidentally shoot his girlfriend in the head.
  3. even in that case he should know about red cards.
  4. he can really run... that looked pretty routine and he was probably out by less than a step. also, arodys vizcaino has some nasty stuff.
  5. 5 of which looked very tempting, at least according to that game day image. don't trust those, they're very inaccurate.
  6. i can't believe he had a plate appearance with 6 pitches and didn't swing at any of them.
  7. yet keith law compared him to juan pierre
  8. terrible day for the relievers at tennessee. rhoderick gave up 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 bb and 1 hbp in 0.2 innings, beliveau allowed 3 home runs in an inning, and dolis has walked 3 guys and allowed 1 run in 0.1 inning.
  9. jeez bryce harper just threw one from the lf fence (right about at the foul pole) to home plate on one hop... what a gun
  10. i don't understand the thing about texas league... is it because it's AA or it's a hitter's league? even if you're saying it's a hitter's league, he's still 5th in obp and 7th in ops while playing against guys who are mostly 5 years older than him. if you're doubting his performance then you can punch a hole in pretty much any prospect.
  11. i'm nitpicking here, but Brandon Wood was ranked #3 by BA following the 2005 season. really??? jeez i was never that high on him.
  12. jose altuve looks completely ridiculous. he's a foot shorter than a lot of the other players. how is he so good???
  13. He's only been mediocre if you look at ERA (4.26) alone. His K/9 is up quite a bit, his FIP and xFIP (2.93 and 2.86) are excellent and he's been worth 2.5 wins. I know you pointed out that he's been unlucky and he has, but the only thing mediocre about his numbers is his ERA even with the bad luck. you can also give some credit to the cubs' bad defense.
  14. austin reed has been awful so far this year.
  15. wieters is at least a better comparison, because he was regarded as one of the best prospects in baseball and hasn't hit like expected. brandon wood/dallas macpherson comps are just kind of silly because it wasn't hard to see how they might bust, and they were never among the top 2-3 prospects in the game.
  16. What sound reasoning. According to that Castro should have sucked since Patterson, Pie etc didn't pan out. Trout is legit. He and Harper are on an entirely different level. brandon wood and dallas mcpherson each had significant contact/plate discipline issues. jeff mathis was a nice prospect, but his OPS went from .844 to .763 to .671 in three years with hitter-friendly salt lake city, so it wasn't hard to see that he'd have some problems offensively. where's the hole in trout's game? that he only OPS'ed like .950 in AA as a 19 year old?
  17. zambrano so far: 4 ip, 3 h, 1 r, 0 er, 3 bb, 4 k, 0 guatemalan kids adopted.
  18. meh, a lot of their guys are doing about what i would've expected. neil walker is all right but last year was fluky. snyder has been fine. ronny cedeno is what we thought he was. pedro alvarez is the guy who's been the huge disappointment, and overbay has also been poor. tabata needs to find a way to hit for more power. mccutcheon has been terrific, should get serious mvp consideration and should be their cornerstone. garrett jones is garrett jones.
  19. mcnutt gave up 2 runs in the first inning (including a home run). tennessee scored twice in the bottom of the frame with 4 singles, brett jackson and flaherty had one apiece. vitters struck out. daytona wasn't rained out, although it would have been better if they had been. lorick gave up 8 runs in 1.2 innings and it's 8-0.
  20. In addition to Posada being a bad DH, their non-Granderson OFs aren't doing much with the bat. gardner is a terrific fielder and baserunner though... any cub OF would be a downgrade from him.
  21. jeez a dynasty league where people are picking up kids from the DSL? that sounds ridiculous.
  22. i would like to petition the mods to rename the dave kaplan rants thread "dave kaplan and steve rosenbloom - morons" on the grounds that this blog piece is more abhorrent than any individual thing that @thekapman has said or written.
  23. don orsillo and jerry remy with another moment of hilarity (see pizza toss video). this time a camera is innocently showing a pair of couples sitting together in the crowd when one guy decides it's a good time to grab his girl's rack. jerry proceeds to lose it for a couple of minutes (you can hear him giggling/gasping for breath in the background)
  24. honestly, this article should be a fireable offense. his ridiculing of zambrano is very personal and unprofessional. there's no way that someone like this should be working for a major big-city newspaper.
