  1. I think you should stop playing teams with Dakota in the name. Doesn't usually end up going too well for the Gophers. I think we should stop playing football until we can put together an actual team buck up there, it's almost hockey season.
  2. well he certainly showed with his .288 obp that he deserved to hit higher in the lineup.
  3. lol also it is great to hear that ben wells is a gamer.
  4. yeah... they've always been conservative with moving prospects up though. money probably had a lot to do with jennings coming up so late, but they really could've used more jennings and less fuld. still, a rotation of shields, price, hellboy, moore and niemann or davis is pretty awesome. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19529909&c_id=mlb - moore's 11 strikeouts. the hitters looked pretty bad on some of those swings. what stands out to me is how easy his delivery is, but then the ball just jumps out of his hand at 95 mph.
  5. Haha I didn't even think about that. What a horrific trade (and everyone knew it was bad at the time, and questioned why the angels would give up a player with value - Napoli - to take on the full value of a disastrous contract)
  6. by the way, i would just like to point out that vernon wells has been a zero win player this year, while the three-headed monster of hank conger, bobby wilson and jeff mathis have been worth -0.5 wins (according to fangraphs) while compiling a sterling .193/.255/.304/.559 line on the year. the main they traded to get wells, mike napoli, has been worth 5.5 wins. (also, juan rivera, who was dealt away, has been worth 1 win) the angels are 5 games behind the rangers and 3 games behind the red sox in the AL west. you do the math.
  7. matt moore had his first mlb start tonight against the yankees - 5 ip, 4 h, 0 er, 1 bb, 11 k. bonerific.
  8. hahahahahaha that was just a delightful meltdown, complete with maddening walks (three unintentional walks with a four run lead, terrible), an error, and of course the strikeout of david wright to give them false hope. not as great as the holliday-almost-getting-hit-in-the-balls game, but still fantastic.
  9. Can't I make fun of both schools from my ivory tower? what mega-opolis is your ivory tower located in?
  10. the braves' wild card lead over the cardinals is down to 1.5 games, 1 in the loss column. get your [expletive] together, braves!
  11. literally nobody has said that scouting doesn't matter, and a moderate specifically suggested that you knock off all the "statheads think this is bs" nonsense, yet you're still on this asinine crusade.
  12. I like how certain people think they're scoring points in this debate by pointing out that no pitcher's arm has ever flown off as a result of overuse, nor has anyone conclusively, beyond a shadow of a doubt, proven that any pitcher's career has been ruined by pitch counts. It's like discussing smoking with a Philip Morris exec. "hey that guy just smoked a few cigarettes and lo and behold, he's still alive!!!" "so what if that 30 year smoker just died from lung cancer, can you prove conclusively that it wasn't genetic or from the environment around him?" "here's a 50 year old dying from lung cancer, never smoked a day in his life!"
  13. we've yet for KKG to tell us why a guy should be throwing 120+ pitches in back to back meaningless games. the second occasion being a game in which he threw his last 20+ pitches in the 9th inning, when the cubs had a 99.7% chance of winning the game.
  14. I bet his arm falls off this winter. Quade rode him like a horse this September. Somebody go to BCB and post Matt Garza's season line. Tell them SenorGato is only wrong sometimes, and he knows pitching. Garza is no Paul Wilson. i'm really enjoying your davearmesque crusade against all things logical.
  15. http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/editorial_image/7d/7d575f83de2182d3438a80f1c7a5279e/byu_fans_turn_on_their_own_after_holy_war_turnover_debacle.jpg
  16. Erm... hey fangraphs has him in the top 50 in WAR among AL players, tied with brendan ryan and kurt suzuki. his obp is almost .300, which i'm pretty sure is awesome for a first baseman.
  17. yeah come on, they're still 18 games over .500 playing in the best division in baseball.
  18. yeah but the brewers knew the cardinals wouldn't be that much of a threat after the furcal trade relegated the mighty theriot to the bench, and this spurred them to .700+ ball ever since.
  19. wrigley is an old ballpark with small seats, how do brewer fans fit in them?
  20. Soto at third would be hilariously awesome. The cubs could break the record for most bunt hits allowed in a season.
  21. Wow great playoffs for vitters, half of the mendoza line
  22. make sure to come down next year and be a part of the brewers' march to 70 wins.
  23. boy arizona's opening schedule is pretty brutal... after the week 1 layup against northern arizona they go @oklahoma st, stanford, oregon, @usc. normally i'd include @oregon st at the end of that, but it seems they suck this year.
  24. pitt and syracuse are applying to join the acc... they seem like good fits since their men's basketball programs are very strong and their football programs are not as good. plus they add new television markets to the conference. i didn't think syracuse would go because boeheim is an icon there, and he really values the big east rivalries and tradition. the fact that syracuse is going suggests to me that they didn't really have any confidence in the big east surviving the conference realignment.
  25. yeah he was dumb as a rock but at least he had good arm strength. at least it's not as bad as matt senneca. that guy was the worst qb i've ever seen at psu... actually he was one of the worst qb's i've seen in the big ten.
