  1. yeah tim needs to drop someone. since when can we add a player to go over the roster limit anyway?
  2. Because throwing 50 pitches in 2 innings isn't the same as throwing 50 over 3-4. If you are trying to stretch a guy out, you want him sitting down between innings, coming back out and still throwing. You want him warming up every inning and training his bodies for what actually happens in a 9 inning game rather than going out there and racking up a high pitch count early. He's a young high school draftee, there's nothing wrong with having him pitch 2 months in A ball. There's no reason to bump him based on 15 innings. how is letting him occasionally struggle against high A or AA hitters less training for "what actually happens in a 9 inning game" than having him set the side down in order in 10 pitches every inning?
  3. Maybe it's because I have ADD instead of ADHD, but I find that absolutely ludicrous. yeah somehow i think my employer would be less than thrilled if i smoked a bowl before coming in to work instead of popping a concerta.
  4. yeah he's got a really nice swing. with his tools there's pretty much no chance he busts (although he may not stick right now just because he's so young). he will be a fun villain for many years to come.
  5. With Youkilis, Longoria, Zimmerman and Sandoval on the shelf, the pickings are really slim at 3rd now. yeah i was not excited about the potential replacements. i have chris young, cliff lee and sandoval on the DL right now, with nick swisher also wasting space by being hurt for the entire week but not DL'ed. could use some better health.
  6. yes (if they're hurt) i think you can also put them on the bench if they are constantly blowing saves and getting negative points. can't replace them though.
  7. put pablo sandoval on dl and added some shitty third baseman to fill in for him.
  8. I'm most impressed by lance lynn, who went from not making the cards' rotation to filling in for Chris carpenter to cy young contender.
  9. yeah normally I think Manuel is quite good, but with bases loaded and 1 out in the 8th, papelbon should come in there.
  10. Ozzie's lineup tonight has Austin kearns hitting cleanup, Omar infante #5 and Giancarlo Stanton batting 6th. Wtf
  11. what the [expletive] halladay???
  12. like 80% of the cards' lineup is hitting out of their mind this year.
  13. If he is, are you going to believe? TT is ordering his lahair shersey as we speak.
  14. this is pretty dumb. i understand wanting to exercise restraint, but i'm of the opinion that top prospects make their own timetable. when a guy has given up 1 hit and 2 walks in 17 innings at low A, it's pretty damn clear that he's too good for that level. if you want to stick with the limited innings, that's fine, but have him do it at a level where guys might actually be able to hit him. On the other hand, if the goal is to gradually stretch him out then having him do that at a level where he is dominating is a pretty good idea. why? put him on a pitch count. if it's 50, then let him throw 50 pitches, regardless of whether he gets through 2.2 innings or 5 innings.
  15. i don't think amaro thinks that way though. he'd just sign him for like $20m a year and 7 years, then worry about the repercussions later.
  16. my understanding has always been that we can add and drop prospects throughout the year without any restrictions, so long as they were available to be drafted in the prospect draft (i.e., they're not a june 2012 draftee or an international free agent who signed since the prospect draft). i'm not sure i understand why you'd want to pick up a guy who's currently in single-A and place him in the majors right now, though.
  17. i'd put them at like 10-15%, but that's only because ruben amaro jr is crazy enough to sink $100m into three pitchers (lee, halladay, hamels) and a declining hitter (howard). plus hamels is a big SoCal guy, so i could see him going the cj wilson route and taking less to play near home. i expect the cubs' payroll to have less than 0% impact on whether or not sign hamels.
  18. well, the good news is that it's pretty easy to turn it around in this league. 2000 points is a pretty low keeper cap considering that elite pitchers pile up 800 points and elite hitters around 600. your minor league system was awful but it looks like you made some really solid picks there, and cespedes is looking like a really good keeper. plus you'll have early draft picks and some room to add good players before the draft.
  19. FFS kyle. the cubs have $34.75m committed for next season. even with arbitration raises they still have a huge amount of money to spend. then the year after that they have just $21m committed, and after that basically nothing. so even in this nightmare world where the cubs can't outspend people purely on 2013 payroll, they can heavily backload any contract offer to hamels or whoever.
  20. this is pretty dumb. i understand wanting to exercise restraint, but i'm of the opinion that top prospects make their own timetable. when a guy has given up 1 hit and 2 walks in 17 innings at low A, it's pretty damn clear that he's too good for that level. if you want to stick with the limited innings, that's fine, but have him do it at a level where guys might actually be able to hit him.
  21. worst outing of dylan bundy's professional career: 4 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 1 bb, 4 k. numbers for the year: 17 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 2 bb, 25 k.
  22. I feel compelled to point out that someone else left you with a pretty solid draft of prospects and a huge point cushion and was criticized for leaving the team completely bare... i was quite happy with the prospects i inherited, but my major leagues were pretty much bereft of talent (i guess "huge point cushion" is the very generous way of putting that)
  23. Did we take Wieters in the first round in that alternate universe? Yep and everyone's pissed it took him 4/5 years to have a 4 WAR season in the MLB considering his hype. who cares? he still put up borderline star-level production in his age 25 season, plays elite defense and is arguably the best all-around catcher in baseball now. i'd sure as hell take that over a guy with questionable plate discipline and defense and zero major league at bats.
  24. i feel compelled to point out that last year i was criticized for stockpiling prospects in hopes that my team could "maybe make the playoffs" by 2014 or 2015... right now i am undefeated and leading in points.
  25. ok i'll go: flyers over devils, rangers over caps, kings over blues, predators over coyotes (combined passionate fans: 34) EC finals: rangers over flyers WC finals: kings over predators finals: should stick with my pick of the kings, but in keeping with the teams that i detest winning championships in the past calendar year (ny giants, stl cardinals), the rangers win the cup.
