  1. we are stuck with our lineups all week unless there's an injury. what if a guy on my team gets demoted to pinch hitting duty or a platoon on a monday, can i swap him out too? relievers don't score that many points and if he's constantly blowing saves he's definitely not scoring well for your team, so it's really not a big deal.
  2. ok, let's stop comparing what happens on a baseball field to what happens on the street, that's even stupider than what cole hamels did.
  3. yeah, he's on pace to set a career high in walks by about the end of may. no idea where this is coming from.
  4. dylan bundy update: 3 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 8 k. season numbers: 20 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 0 er, 2 bb, 33 k.
  5. how did the devils barely get past the panthers? they look miles better than the flyers.
  6. Only two more years of it. fortunately i think they'll be paying him to go away a lot earlier than september 2014.
  7. i really don't have a problem with soriano as a person, but i am just tired of watching him play baseball for the cubs.
  8. cerda needs to get on beefcake 3000. supposedly he's a good fielder, he can hit and is patient, but he has no power whatsoever.
  9. Don't they want to lose a couple to have artest back for game one? his name is world peace, show some respect
  10. boy if concepcion doesn't start pitching better, that $6m contract is going to become a running joke in the scouting community.
  11. i don't think we're clear on the rules. what are "the points in question"? all his points for those two days? just scott rolen's points (i.e., one) let's just get a consensus on a hard-and-fast rule and have it apply to all owners, so that we aren't worried about how long someone's been in the league for, or how frequently they mess up, or how much integrity we think they have. if we want to just take away one player's points for a first offense and then wipe out all points for repeated violations, i'd be ok with that.
  12. perhaps someone should change the thread title.
  13. you're the one who's playing tim, so you should probably have some input. don't we usually say that we should make the rules simple? seems to me like a standard points deduction for an illegal roster is more simple than sometimes removing someone's points, but only if they haven't been in the league x years and had only y illegal rosters during that time, and it was an accident and not done on purpose. in which case they only lose the points of one of the players they added this week. otherwise, there's pretty much no penalty for me to go over my roster limit by adding some setup man in response to an ineffective or injured closer, then keeping him as a reserve until the closer situation becomes more clear. if my guy is named as closer, i keep him and drop someone else... if he stays as setup man then i just drop him again.
  14. well you're the commissioner, propose an alternate solution. multiple people had the understanding that illegal rosters cannot score points. i don't think that dropping a player to become legal and losing that player's points is really much of a deterrent. what if i have too many pitchers and a starting pitcher goes out and posts a -15, and i drop him, can i get rid of that -15 that he tagged me with? i could get behind some kind of real penalty, like a 20 point per day loss for teams that have illegal rosters. that figures to be less than the punishment of wiping out an entire day's worth of scoring, but still significantly harms a team's chances of winning that week.
  15. if we don't have a rule like that, what's to stop people from stashing extra players on their team? the punishment of losing like 2 points for their offensive player who put them over?
  16. yes, he went over when he added scott rolen on tuesday, so for wednesday and thursday's games (5/3 and 5/4) his points scored will have to be revised to 0.
  17. well his knee is blown out. can a guy really pitch with a torn acl? if he undergoes surgery his season is definitely over. he'd be 43 next year. the question isn't really if he's still good enough, because he definitely is and probably could go until he's 50, but it sounded like this might be his last year.
  18. yes, there is a setting like that, but if that's turned on then people won't be able to move pitchers to their bench to avoid going over the 7 start limit.
  19. I'd like to note that I did actually predict LaHair would be the best hitter on the Cubs at about an .850 OPS, at a "poor man's Dunn" level. Before last year, the reason LaHair wasn't a real prospect was that he had the bad K rate but not the power to make up for it. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain some semblance of his crazy HR/FB rate (not Kemp crazy, but still miles better than the league), but he has some value in an all-or-nothing masher, especially when the Cubs aren't really counting on it for long term production. it's also notable that he's showing a lot of opposite field power and not selling out to pull the ball out to right. that's a good sign.
  20. did the other team forget to send batters to home plate in that half inning?
  21. if i'm reading the transactions right, he had too many guys on his roster before he added robertson/dropped rasmus? Yeah, I'll drop someone else before start of action tomorrow. Would there be any objection if I dropped Santiago and played shorthanded this week with an extra guy on my bench? i don't think it really matters because duffy and samardzija would be "relief pitcher eligible" if that existed. you'll just have an extra starter, which is fine as long as you don't go over your 7 start limit.
  22. if i'm reading the transactions right, he had too many guys on his roster before he added robertson/dropped rasmus? yes, he has 16 starters (that's the max) and 4 reserves - only 19 major league players are allowed.
  23. not happy about having 3 marlins with that stupid cavernous ballpark they built. would like to trade out morrison but not thrilled about the group C options.
  24. also, for some dumb ass reason waivers are set for tuesdays, so i'll make it sunday morning as was requested by someone.
