  1. i-cobs have 4 home runs, including back-to-back-to-back from brad nelson, lake and ty wright. the hooner also hit his first AAA home run, and has also doubled. szczur is 2-4 with a double and stolen base. i think he's got a fairly high floor as a reasonably solid 4th outfielder. would be nice if he turned into more than that, but he needs to develop some pop.
  2. i'm sure they'll sort it out. i'm about as worried about them going over the cap or losing jimenez than i am about kris bryant not signing.
  3. villanueva has 4 home runs in his last 7 games.
  4. i'm not really going to get bent out of shape about puig. just about everybody in the industry was laughing at the dodgers for that contract. looks like they just did a great job of scouting, or got lucky. cespedes is another matter.
  5. guess he must've just cycled that female fertility drug out of his system.
  6. i was mostly just being flippant. just annoys me sometimes when players get butthurt because their buddy was traded, but hopefully it's just him blowing off steam because he and feldman got along well, and because the team sucks. if not, then i guess we get to trade him for something next year or whatever.
  7. I'm not so sure he doesn't understand all this. I just think it's not on him to give a crap about the long-term interests of the ballclub. He's on the Chicago Cubs in 2013 and they suck and just traded away a good player. He saw this last year and he's been a part of a team that has been bad for a long time. At 30,000 feet you can see the promise on the horizon, but the guys who have to play on this crap team right now don't have the advantage of tuning out and waiting for the future. i guess i just don't really see the difference. this team was already bad with feldman. there was no realistic scenario in which the cubs became good in the second half and made the playoffs. they can win like 68 games with feldman and clevenger and other assorted great guys who play the game hard and play the right way, or they can win 62 games with other great guys who sometimes play the game the wrong way. and i'm sure it sucks being on a lousy ballclub, but when you sign with a team that hasn't won it all since the teddy roosevelt administration, you should have an idea of what you're getting into.
  8. well yeah of course the team doesn't improve this year by trading feldman, but the guy is on a one year contract and the team is more than 10 games out of a playoff spot. samardzija should understand that (a) the cubs aren't going anywhere with feldman, so in their long-term interests it makes far more sense to trade him for players who might be part of an improved team in future years than to keep him around to win an extra game or two. he should also realize that clevenger is a mediocre backup catcher who can't stay healthy, and his inadequate production negates any positive benefit from him being a guy who plays the game the right way and is a good competitor when playing video games in the club house.
  9. how could feldman be one of his boys? the guy was around for like 6 months. also... oh brother. this guy has a future in broadcasting for sure.
  10. Our motto has changed from "Wait until next year" to "Wait until next decade". I wish that wait until next decade would be your motto with respect to how frequently you post here.
  11. i just need to keep telling myself we'll get a higher draft pick and larger draft/international free agency pools. about 60 more times this year.
  12. paniagua just wastin' time down in the DR: 4ip, 1h, 0r, 0bb, 3k, 1 hbp. all kinds of pitchers for the azl cubs. dae-eun rhee continuing his rehab work, then starling peralta, then marcos mateo. zack godley (10th round senior sign) made his debut, then michael wagner (15th round reliever from san diego) also debuted, then erick leal came in to pitch the 8th. btw, why did wagner fall all the way to the 15th round? mlb.com had him ranked 58th overall and BA ranked him 192nd.
  13. wonder if the cubs will use rusin as a loogy in august/sept. would be nice to see how he'd fare in that role - might as well use the second half to find out.
  14. blackburn was barfy. 3ip, 2h, 3r, 2er, 4bb, 0k.
  15. homer bailey threw a no-hitter. first pitcher to be responsible for the two most recent no hitters since nolan ryan.
  16. junior lake has a double and two triples off michael wacha. 2 walks (one intentional) and a stolen base for alcantara. villanueva hit a home run. hendricks: 5ip, 6h, 0r, 0bb, 5k.
  17. here's a hint, he used to call games involving first baseman derek lee.
  18. i remember there was a placeholder shelby miller at one time. that's a first round draft pick and highly regarded player. people should just be able to add anyone who is an eligible player owned by a major league baseball organization. at some point he'll get added to the database if he becomes significant or reaches the majors. there's no reason not to have prospects available because dopey CBS hasn't put them in their database.
  19. Assistant to the Traveling Secretary Costanza was supposed to pass on the message.
  20. well, at least they won't be rained out.
  21. he also says it's not the astros. hard-hitting reporting from this guy.
