  1. That's what would make him a great Cub - inability to draw walks.
  2. Or you could read the whole thread and realize that about 5 posts in this thread dealt with the Cardinals loss, and the other 35 deal with Cardinals' trade possibilities.
  3. I guess Prior and Wood should be getting all the calls every time a white American ump is behind the plate then?
  4. Cranium Rectum Inversion Syndrome... he caught it from the manager.
  5. LOL, if that isn't Classic Cubs, screwed over by the umps and then boneheaded baserunning.
  6. Oh COBS, always doing just enough to get our hopes up!
  7. Jim Leyland wants to manage again. Yeah, if people bitch about Dusty abusing pitchers, wait til Jim Leyland comes walking through the clubhouse doors. He seemed to be an annual leader in the BP Pitcher Abuse Points statistic, including in one year when he had 4 rookies on his starting staff.
  8. Yeah, but how can you blame Dusty for that last inning? Most people were hoping it was Novoa and not Remlinger. It was, and he still gave up a hit. Sometimes you just have to face the facts and realize that outside of Dempster and to some extent Wuertz, there really isn't a whole lot of reliability in that bullpen.
  9. Yeah, this game is going to have to go about 35 innings before that happens.
  10. Neifi Perez + "Productive AB" = Does Not Compute
  11. man how can a team that tells it fans to believe allow for this type of lineup to happen? Maybe they meant for us to believe that they might score a run every now and then, not that they would win a World Series. We just jumped to conclusions (mat)
  12. Man, how could we be getting shut out with this kind of stellar lineup? Inconceiveable!
  13. Nope, this is Jessica Alba: http://www.wapko.com/jessica_alba/pic5.jpg and this is Josie Maran: http://images.absolutecelebrities.com/rp/Maran_JS8823.jpg They certainly are similar... the difference being, of course, that one is simply hot, while the other is the hottest woman in the universe.
  14. Did he pull a Pete Sampras or Donovan McNabb and boot right on the field of play?
  15. Do you mean the 10,000 people who cared about them before they got good in '03, or the "fans" they gained later in the year?
  16. I thought about Marquis, but his salary is already $3M and next year it will likely go to about $5M with another arbitration year. Wells is currently in the third year of a contract that will pay him: 2006: $4.30 million 2007: $5.60 million during the next two years. Are they really going to trade him for a pitcher who would end up being at least as expensive as Wells, if not moreso? I have my doubts. The Blue Jays would much prefer a guy who was earlier on in his free agency clock.
  17. Wake up from that awesome dream I was having.
  18. If you're talking about Vernon Wells, I'd start the discussion with Reyes. Then I'd ask for some other stuff too, probably whoever their top positional prospect or Chris Lambert. In any case, I don't see it happening at all this season. Sanders doesn't deserve to get sent to the bench, and Walker doesn't either if he's healthy. If they trade for Wells and everyone is healthy, somebody is going to be very unhappy.
  19. No, but you're not getting the right reason that he won all those games. He has 300 wins because he's been durable, and because for 11 straight years, he was in the top 8 in the league in ERA - in all but one of those years he was top 4 in ERA. When you make all your starts and pitch that well, you're bound to win 15+ games. The last two years he's been able to win that many games because he's been durable and he's gotten good run support. If Kerry Wood had that much run support, he'd have won plenty more than 14 games in a year before.
  20. Sounds like the words of a bitter fantasy owner. By the way Cardinal fans, you're not getting Vernon Wells. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
  21. It would be awesomer if the Cubs were anywhere close to the Cards in the standings. :x
  22. Someone else vote for Pujols-Rolen so that my vote isn't the only one in their column. Sorry, but I have to be objective. Rolen, I think, is still slightly better than Ramirez when healthy, especially when you factor in his defense. This year aside, Pujols is better than Lee, even though Lee is considerably better defensively, it doesn't make up for a 150 or so point difference in OPS+.
  23. I voted zero times because I don't care about the MLB all-star game.
  24. Obligatory post-bad game bump :P
  25. Yeah, Exhibit 800 in why Phil Rogers sucks. Maddux has been average at best this year, but sure, he's been as valuable to the Cubs this year as he was to the Braves when he had some of the best pitching seasons in history. Sorry Phil, but his 4.86 ERA is not as indispensible as you seem to believe. Being able to take the ball every 5 days and throw it for 5 or 6 innings in a mediocre fashion does not make a guy indispensible... otherwise Jeff Suppan and every other #3-4 pitcher in the league should be considered indispensible.
