  1. In related news, Aramis Ramirez is hitting a lot of home runs for the Chicago Cubs.
  2. Ribbee, do you have a day job or an off-season job? It must be hard making rent and groceries (lots of honey pots) on just ~70 home games every year. Do you do anything else to support Mama Bear and the baby Cubs at home?
  3. You have got to be kidding me. Why Trot Nixon? Why not? Aside from the fact that he's rather poor against RHP, a problem that can be pretty effectively remedied by a competent RH batter, he has an OPS around .900 over the past 3+ years with neutral home-road splits - meaning he isn't helped by Fenway. In fact, his .360 OBP would look really nice starting in the OF. So I say to you, not Why Trot, but Why Not Trot?
  4. For the love of God, do not go to Hrabosky's.
  5. I read the first part and got really excited. Bastard. Yeah, because when Chicago and Cincinnati news breaks, the first place you'll hear it is on the radio in State College, PA. By the way, that same radio station is reporting that the peanut butter in the aforementioned sandwich was not crunchy-style, and the Jelly is generic store-brand rather than Smuckers. Since this information came to light, the Reds have since backed out of the deal. The reason the Reds backed out is that they couldn't agree on the brand of peanut butter. The Reds insisted on Peter Pan, but the Cubs were only willing to use Jif. :D NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why Jim Hendry, why? Have you tasted the respective peanut butters? have you tried Peter Pan Extra Chunky? If so, then you know why the Reds were not willing to make this deal.
  6. Outside of our good SP, Lee and Ramirez, nobody has more trade value than Walker right now.
  7. Because his contract is up at the end of this season? Because my opinion has been well-established that this team is going nowhere fast this seaon? Shoppach is prime trade bait and could be a cheaper alternative for Barrett. I don't care what they've said about Pedroia; their second base play has been incompetent this seaon and they would deal him for an excellent hitter like Todd Walker. Renteria is locked up long term; are they going to play two second basemen next year (Ramirez and Pedroia)? One of them is expendable, this I guarantee you. Excellent point about the platoon for Nixon, whoever made it. He's atrocious against LHP and killer against RHP. Not sure if we could offer anyone to platoon with him, but Walker and Rusch would be excellent value regardless of whether another OF could be included as bait. While Walker is hitting well lately, let's be honest -- his numbers are well above his career average recently, and he's in the walk year of his contract. IMO if we keep him, he leaves for zippo in free agency.
  8. And yes, I know I'm thinking trade in a different way than most of the people on this board. I don't think this year's team is good enough to make the playoffs or go anywhere should it manage to worm its way into the playoffs... so I'm thinking future instead.
  9. OK, I don't try these very often so I'll take a shot. Boston definitely needs 2B help. They also seem to need a backup outfielder after the falling out w/Jay Payton, and their bullpen needs some work. Cubs trade: Todd Walker, Todd Hollandsworth, Glendon Rusch (also would be insurance in case a starter gets hurt) Red Sox trade: Hanley Ramirez (Sox would probably shoot this down) & decent pitching prospect so... Red Sox trade: Dustin Pedroia & Jon Lester If Rusch wasn't enough for them, I'd consider Dempster instead. Thoughts? EDIT - I would be interested in Kelly Shoppach in place of Jon Lester too... Shoppach is a prime piece of trade bait for them with Varitek not going anywhere for a while
  10. I am completely opposed to making any trade that doesn't improve the team for the long haul. Despite the Cubs playing pretty well lately against some subpar teams, I don't see this year's team going anywhere. If you're going to trade for a guy who can be a long-term contributer, go for it... otherwise, suck it up the rest of this year and try to build a better team going into next season.

  12. Hey, is anyone listening to ESPN 1640 in State College, Pennsylvania? They're reporting that the Reds have traded Dunn to the Cubs for Corey Patterson, Mike Harkey and a peanut butter & jelly sandwich!
  13. Depends on who the rest of the lineup consists of. I think we can say for sure we will have Lee, Barrett and ARam in the lineup next year. If there aren't any upgrades over this year's lineup, then no, I don't want Burnitz out there. I'd like to see Walker still at second next year. We really need to make a pretty big improvement at either LF or CF to keep Burnitz in RF, in my opinion.
  14. Do you think the Altoona Curve would give me an NSBB.com press pass?
  15. Gotta hand it to the Cubs, at least they are creative and entertaining when they lose.
  16. Let's all blame the umpires because the Cubs' bullpen has bad control!
  17. Time for y'all to start losing it again.
  18. Haha you people lost your minds that last innings... what the hell is wrong with you?
  19. Can't do that, need to save him for when we're losing by 3 runs in the ninth.
  20. No 9th win for Maddux. Anyone else think getting 15 again this year is going to be really tough for him? Yes, but not because of the offense... if he doesn't get there it will be because he's not that good any more and can't pitch deep into ballgames very often.
  21. What do you want him to do? Double switch is the obvious move in this spot. It would be bad managing to leave the pitcher in the #9 spot.
  22. A lot of your stats seem to indicate that the Cubs do better when an individual on the team, or the whole team in general, does something well.
  23. Sammy Sosa says hi. Ah, yes, forgot about Sammy. I saw him in that Orioles game yesterday. He looks tiny now compared to a few years ago. That's because him and Giambi stopped going to all those fast food places together.
  24. Wow, Sportsline is literally going bonkers right now.
