  1. Wow, all that time I didn't know that it was Walker's fault that Wakefield gave up that HR to Aaron Boone in 2003, and then him not being on the Red Sox last year enabled them to overcome a 3-0 deficit in their series against the Yankees!
  2. Patterson is about 15 spots too low. If the Cubs were, for some reason, only able to keep one of him and Harvey in their organization, I would dump Harvey and keep Patterson, no question. Harvey might have a very high ceiling but I'm pretty down on his chances of actually reaching it.
  3. I usually do better in leagues that have a live draft, but if we're doing autopick then just let us know a bit ahead of time so I can re-order guys.
  4. Don't blow this Cubs... tank the last few games and make sure that pick isn't going anywhere.
  5. Well I have finally stopped being lazy and put a check in the mail for one year of premium. Also, I can't take any more of those banner ads for that horrible movie.
  6. OK I'm in and that makes 7... how are we doing the draft, btw?
  7. When we signed him, I wasn't giving into the hype. I refused to be taken in by his "scrappiness" or his "hustle". I KNEW for a fact that our ground ball pitchers would rue the day Renteria left (and I also agreed he wasn't worth the money he signed). Eckstein has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I just wanted to say that I've been a defender of his from the beginning. Normally, I wouldn't say anything about it, but I spent countless hours in the offseason (especially on stltoday.com) responding to idiotic posts like "Eckstein's range and arm are going to cause all our groundball pitcher's ERAs to rise by half a run," and frankly, I think I've earned it. He also rescued a baby trapped in a well, helped foil a terrorist plot to blow up the Earth, and his butt smells like roses too.
  8. This is a pointless stat. The only reason he's third on the team is because of injuries. If the 3B, LF and RF had all been healthy this year, Eckstein would rank 6th on the team at best.
  9. So 5 of the 8 position players on the Cubs are better than the Cards, and 6th one is a wash this year (Lee/Pujols). So that means that you'd only take the Cards for 2 of the 8 positions? And yet the Cards have scored 80 more runs than the Cubs. I don't get your logic. Edmonds is 8000 times better than Patterson, and Sanders is a lot better than whoever the Cubs have in LF. Plus Nomar hasn't been healthy, so when you compare the SS the Cubs have had in there most of the year to Eckstein, the Cards have obviously gotten more production out of that position.
  10. for me in the Braves-Phillies game! Farnsworth - save Abreu - 3-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB C. Jones - 2-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 5 RBI Look out Lowercase q's, I'm coming back!
  11. The Cubs have been cheating all year long, that's why they've been so surprisingly good in 2005  Besides, I'd rather have a cheating scorekeeper than a cheating relief pitcher.
  12. Wow, would you like to go through the rest of my posts and completely mischaracterize them as well?
  13. Are all Cardinal fans this big homers? Good Lord. Eckstein is better than Nomar when healthy? Yadier Molina's defense makes up for the massive difference in offense (30 VORP for Barrett versus 8 for Molina)? Grudz is better than Todd Walker? So Taguchi and a bunch of bench guys are better than Burnitz? 2 Cy Young winners? Hey, the Cubs have one in Greg Maddux... yee haw. Mulder may have a Cy Young award but he clearly isn't pitching that way the last two years. Jocketty has proven that he might be the best in MLB? John Schuerholtz has proven that by putting a team on the field that has won their division 12 years in a row. Jocketty has proven that he's good, but come on. It's good that you support your team, but it doesn't make you any less of a fan to see things in an objective manner.
  14. Oh no? Perhaps you missed all those times I've stated something along these lines: viewtopic.php?t=24110&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 I guess writing that type of thing 10 times wasn't enough to have it noticed though.
  15. When you say "Pujols", I assume you mean "Albert Pujols", who has the second most errors among major league first basemen?
  16. Doesn't hurt that Rolen, Edmonds, Beltre, Young, Santana and Sheets all had the best year of their careers.... Young and Santana weren't that hard to foresee, but Sheets improving 50 points over his career ERA+ was pretty fortunate, nobody could have predicted the Beltre spaz (which is really looking like a fluke now) and Rolen/Edmonds, as great as they are, had fluky good years. It's better to be lucky and good than just good, my friend :)
  17. Holy Cross is 2-0 with a 104-27 point differential... unfortunately they can't play Sacred Heart and Georgetown every week.
  18. I don't really agree that he's better than those guys... Renteria is better than Eckstein, unless you ignore the rest of their careers and focus on this year only. Cabrera's numbers are very close to Eckstein's, which makes the contract that Cabrera got from the Angels even more stunning. What a brutal move by the Angels, in all honesty. Not every player has... but many have. Womack last year, Nunez this year, Carpenter, Tavarez, there has been luck involved. But I think Jocketty has been very good at finding players (mainly veterans) who are undervalued in the free agent market. Sanders at $3M per year was a bargain. So was Grudz at $1M this year, and Suppan at around $3M, and even Eckstein at $3M is a bargain when you consider that other FA shortstops like Renteria and Cabrera got 3 times as much money. I've been saying this all along... the Cards' domination of the NL Central the last 2 years has been a combination of good management and good luck People just forget that I acknowledge the first part of that.
  19. I knew there was a reason E-Patt and Sing were my two favorite Cub minor leaguers... not only are they good in the regular season but they come up big in the playoffs as well!
  20. Eckstein isn't great, but Stark was way off in that. Paying $3M per year for a shortstop who can get on base 34% of the time is not a bad investment. If you really want a bad SS signing, how about Cristian Guzman and his .303 OBP coming into this season for $4M per year?
  21. Yeah, I was gonna say that he had an ace up his sleeve, but Rick Helling, Paul Maholm, Tim Wakefield and Brandon Claussen hardly qualify as aces. More like he had 7-2 offsuit up his sleeve and made a set of deuces on the river.
  22. Did he also mention that Eric Patterson could start the season in Chicago? :D
  23. Actually I did it because it's not technically against the rules
