  1. Oh believe me, I was on the bandwagon way before that. Since the day he was drafted, actually.
  2. 263/330/408 is not a bad line for a second baseman in a pitcher's league. And that's about 3/4 of a season, whereas last year and his time in Iowa and in the AFL, he has raked. He also has shown much more ability to steal bases than Pie. And, he's been among the top 20 prospects in all of the leagues he has played in so far. I don't see how any of this suggests that he shouldn't be in the lineup in 2008, provided that he proves himself in Iowa.
  3. Corey Patterson is lots more years older and grew up playing in the US, and he sure as hell doesn't have plate discipline. Felix Pie has played professional baseball in the US for five years now, which is the same amount of time that Eric Patterson has spent playing college and professionally.
  4. can't you tell from the name?
  5. what did you just watch PTI and post that lol well, PTI did remind me of it, but I was talking to my housemate about the same thing last night. I've seen two players now let go of a quarterback because they were afraid of getting a penalty. I saw a play a few weeks ago where a Steelers lineman basically fell at the feet of the opposing QB and got flagged for it. If a guy launches himself headfirst at a quarterback's head, then yeah, flag and fine him. But if his hand hits the quarterback's head, that should not be a penalty, especially when the QB ducks into it. The NFL has been so reactionary to QB injuries. What happens when a QB hurts his arm when it gets hit as he's trying to throw - no hitting the QB's arm? It's freakin football. People are going to get hit. If you don't want QBs getting hurt, then just put two flags on the QB's belt and call him down when somebody grabs one.
  6. Yup, plus he pitched over 200 innings in each of those years, something Meche has never done. Maybe Gil Meche will turn into a very good pitcher, but after four below-average ones, it's highly unlikely. I'd prefer not to gamble that he's one of the few guys that figures it out late.
  7. Well, I find it humorous that you refer to Patterson's .263 average seemingly to say he had a mediocre year, but then you use IsoD later in the post. As you probably know, batting average is a really lousy stat to evaluate a player's performance. And by the way, he hit .358 at Iowa. As for AFL, he ranked in the top 10 in BA (there's that stat again!), OBP and OPS, so regardless of it being a hitter's league, he was one of the best players in the league. And, it should be noted that the Southern League traditionally favors pitchers.
  8. You guys are quickly jumping to conclusions about Gil Meche. You see his numbers and you quickly don't want him. The thing you're not seeing is the potential he has to succeed. He has a very live arm, still pretty young, sharp breaking curveball, and a potential Jason Schmidt changeup in the mix. I see his potential for more of a reason to sign him rather than his numbers. He's had six years in the majors and will be 28 next year. When's this potential going to translate into results? And that's fine if you like him, but you have to understand why people are skeptical of your opinion. He's been a below-average pitcher for four consecutive seasons and is an injury risk, which makes many people apprehensive of giving him a multi-year contract in the neighborhood of $8-9M per year.
  9. Did anyone see that penalty on the Packers guy for "roughing the passer" last night? What a joke. Changed the momentum of the game, and watching the Giants game, I know that Kiwanuka stopped tackling Vince Young because he was afraid of getting flagged. The NFL really has to do something about this, or two years from now we'll just have QBs wearing red jerseys so that they can't be hit at all.
  10. Well, Holy Cross played at Syracuse last night and only lost 72-64. Not bad at all. I think we should be pretty good this year - hopefully better than friggin Bucknell.
  11. Unfortunately, Wisconsin didn't have a schedule where they could really earn their way in. Outside of Michigan, the best team they played was Penn State. They just don't have the quality wins that merit inclusion in the BCS.
  12. Never been to Dino's... I live in Houserville so it shouldn't be hard for me to shoot over there and try it. You ever go to the buffet at Hi-Way Pizza? It's awesome... I love buffalo chicken pizza. When I win a gift card for stuff at Dante's Restaurants (won playing poker), I usually just end up using it on a Hi-Way pizza buffet. speaking of poker, I played a free tourney at Quaker Steak and Lube last Thursday (thanksgiving). Lots of fun. I came in like 19th out of 50 or so. Top prize was a seat in the QWK Rock tourney (whose winner gets a seat at an Atlantic City tourney). They do free hold em' every Monday and Thursday night. Cheap beer specials too (pints of Yuengling for $2) I've been to a couple of them, and I did want to go on Thanksgiving since I was stuck in town working, but my shift started at 9:30, so I couldn't play. Some of the people there are hilariously bad. I saw somebody call an all-in with 54 on a flop of AAQ. Anyway, PM me sometime if you're going and if I'm going to be there, I'll look for you. will do. I'm pretty limited to when i can play since i'm home with the kids during the week, but if they play the week between Xmas and New years, I'll be there. Bring the kids! Outside of Sesame Place, you can't do any better for family fun than taking them to a bar where people are drinking, smoking and playing cards!
  13. But why is he in the big leagues still? The reason is because he plays great defense, calls a game pretty well, handles a pitching staff well, great tutor to the young players, and he throws out base runners better than most catchers in the league. His defense is why he is still in the big leagues. He is??? This sounds like one of those silly intangibles arguments that you could make for just about any player who isn't known to be a complete prick. What exactly can he tell the young guys - don't be like me?
  14. Indeed. Rotoworld just did. they make a good point - why bid $25M to negotiate with a potential end of the rotation starter, but $30M to negotiate with a frontline starter? Terrible.
  15. Pie: 164 BB/438 K in 487 minor league games Patterson: 111/199 in 257 games Really, I don't hate Pie, and I do hope that his performance this season merits giving him a shot in 2008. I just have a feeling that his plate discipline will hold him back, and I fear that he's in the wrong organization to teach it to him. Patterson came into the organization with a good idea of the strike zone. Mostly, I just like Patterson as a potential leadoff hitter - Soriano shouldn't be hitting leadoff, and he won't be once he starts slowing down.
  16. LSU is probably BCS-bound. Auburn/Tennessee is more likely.
  17. No coach of the year award for Dorrell???
  18. 209/261/229 last year. What an awful baseball player.
  19. If they used steroids improperly, it would have been illegal within their jurisdiction (legal) and unethical in MLB (ethical). I still dont understand why it has to be proven that they did it. It is a select club. If you dont meet the standards of the club, and by that i mean the perception as well as the record, why do you automatically get inclusion into the club? The burden of proof should be on them to prove they are worthy. These guys are supposed to represent the best of the best. I dont see why Sammy, Barry, or Mark would be anything to emulate. McGwire has admitted he was unethical with the andio, which was legal at the time, but very unethical. Sammy and Barry will be held to that standard. It may or may not have been legal but is very unethical, and therefore, they should be excluded from the club, even if it is never legally proven. The last time I checked, assault and battery were crimes. Stabbing, choking, spiking and slapping people could probably be considered unethical. It's funny how you just shrug this off as "the way things were back then."
  20. Actually his QB rating is worse than Delhomme and Pennington, and he has more turnovers than Mr. No Mistake. And Eli's backup is Jared Lorenzen, who I don't think has ever played an NFL down. If you think people haven't been killing Roethlisberger this year, you haven't been paying attention. The only reason people aren't talking about him now is because the Steelers have rendered themselves irrelevent. The Bears are a playoff team. Anyway, I think the reason people are criticizing Rex Grossman is because he's had three games in which he has totally killed the Bears. Pennington has had a couple of lousy games, and Delhomme hasn't been great, but their lows haven't been as low as Grossman (ratings of 10, 23 and 37 in the three worst games). Like it or not, he's younger and hasn't proven what either of those guys have proven. I think what everybody notices is that if come playoff time, Grossman lays an egg like the ones he's laid against Arizona, Miami and New England, the Bears are done. Even Rex said it himself - he can't be AS bad when he's not on.
  21. I miss the good ol' days with like 50 bowl games on New Year's Day
  22. hahaha, why'd they even bother putting this in the contract??? Odd that he gets more for being the World Series MVP (better than 50 players over 4-7 games) than the reg. season MVP (better than 600 players over 162 games). Oh well, I'd be happy with either :) good move for the Cubs. They've had MVPs in the not-so-distant past (Sosa, Dawson, Sandberg), and if Soriano were to improve on last season, it wouldn't be out of the question. On the other hand, if he plays eight years in a Cub uniform, there's no chance that he'll play in a World Series.
  23. Good point. As we've seen with Chan Ho Park and Darren Dreifort, a lot of GMs are too dumb to realize that Dodger Stadium is a pitcher's park. Plus, maybe he saw the idiotic contracts handed out by Coletti and figured that after one good year out there, he could really cash in.
