  1. Well the Yankees could easily put together deals better than that, without including Hughes.
  2. yeah, I was being generous. Seriously, unless there were somebody like Miguel Cabrera or Johan Santana being offered up, the Yankees aren't dealing a guy who's probably the best pitching prospect in baseball. Especially for a good-but-not-great pitcher like Willis.
  3. No, not really. I think his arm will be fine since he hardly throws any breaking balls, and he kept the ball down last year. He strikes me as a good pitcher - not the kind of guy who falls apart when he loses a tick or two off his fastball.
  4. I really don't see the point of doing that. Hughes may very well be better than Willis two years from now. Unlike most highly-touted New York prospects, he really is as good as advertised.
  5. Yes, but it needs to be done. 4/60 for Schmidt is insane. No, 5/55 for Darren Dreifort is insane. 4/60 for Schmidt is overpaying to get a good pitcher. Not when he is 34yrs old and breaking down. huh, I must have missed that breaking down during his 32 start, 213 inning, 125 ERA+, All-Star season. I need to pay more attention.
  6. I'm glad he had two years with the Cubs when he made over $2M. Seemed like a good guy. I rooted for him, but I do have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who made more in a year than I'll make in my entire life.

  8. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/cs-061128bearsbits,1,6348055.story?coll=cs-home-headlines The Manning thing doesn't surprise me - in his first year, Marvin Harrison was still developing, the other receivers were lousy, and the offensive line practically consisted of five turnstiles. Plus, he was thrown right into the fire - didn't get to sit and learn the offense and watch from the sidelines for a while. People forget how bad the Colts back then because they've been really good for a number of years.
  9. I love how Jacque Jones is getting dumped in every proposed deal, as if he has some solid trade value.
  10. I really don't think a team that was the 3rd worst in baseball last year should be favored for anything.
  11. well, at least his arm is still attached. i open every mark prior thread with the fear that it has fallen off.
  12. Why the hell did everyone change their names? Should I just turn into Bob then?
  13. No way is that certain. They would have been 24-5, RPI would've been above 50, and they had only two wins over teams in the top 90 of the RPI (Syracuse and St. Joe's). A lot of little-conference teams have been left out with similar profiles - including Holy Cross the year before, when they were 24-6 after losing to Bucknell in the PL final.
  14. go play outside
  15. I don't see how anybody can support that arguement. It's absurd. The winner of the championship game is the champion. What if the other contender for #2 in the nation already lost to OSU earlier? Would they not deserve a chance? Don't teams from conferences with championship games sometimes play twice in a year? Why would the conference championship game winner be the conf champ if they lost to them earlier in the year? And with the outcry for a playoff, wouldn't that result in the occasional rematch? Would the winner of said playoff not be the champion because they lost earlier? If the two teams had played in like week 3, I'd say OK, because obviously a lot can change (i.e., Arkansas is a lot better than they were when they faced USC). But it's the LAST GAME EACH TEAM PLAYED. Nothing has changed. Michigan had their chance and they lost. Now let USC or Florida play for it, provided they win out.
  16. He's a really good coach - HC is lucky to have him. If he were younger and not set at his alma mater, I'm sure he'd have major-conference teams looking at him. That team was completely in the tank when he arrived, and he took them to a PL title in just two years. He also did something similar with Western Kentucky, his first job. His only failure was at Pitt - he did have five years - but Howland took them to a 29-6 record a couple of years later using players that Willard recruited. Not going to happen. HC just isn't athletic enough, and they'll probably get smoked. The Patriot League will never get two teams in, unless HC or Bucknell turns into the Gonzaga of the East someday. I suppose it'd be possible if HC lost to Syracuse, Duke and then Bucknell in the Patriot League final, leaving them w/three losses - but that's a lot to expect, given road games against Providence and Dayton (who beat Louisville), and two games earlier in the year against Bucknell. It'll probably come down to HC and Bucknell, just like the last two years. Bucknell has a really good big guy who's a senior - until he graduates, I'd have to say Bucknell is the favorite.
  17. The argument I like best for why Michigan shouldn't play - say they win in the championship game. Then they're the champions. They already played like six weeks prior and Michigan lost, so the teams are 1-1 against each other. So why does Michigan deserve to be the champs? Have they really proven that they're better than Ohio State? Nope.
  18. hey isn't it funny that in st. louis they make a beer called busch, and george w. bush once got arrested for drunk driving? awesome!!!
  19. ERA+: 2003: 158 2004: 133 2005: 125 2006: 92 WHIP: 2003: 1.08 2004: 1.26 2005: 1.35 2006: 1.44 Also look at BB/K and BB/9... the trends aren't particularly encouraging.
  20. He does strike out too much and needs to walk more, but he's not ALLERGIC to a walk, which gives me some hope for him. Now Ryan Harvey on the other hand... yikes.
  21. I can't endorse any deal in which Patterson is traded. And yes, I know Kendrick is a better prospect than him. I'm just stubborn. I really don't get the lust over Patterson. He's far from an untouchable. Because, he came in as an 8th round draft pick and I was the most excited about it at the time, and a lot of people doubt him but he has succeeded along the way so far. It's like when you have a favorite band and they're pretty obscure, and then they start to make it big - you feel like you discovered them. What can I say, I'm just liked the kid from when he was drafted, thought he'd be a real solid major leaguer for the Cubs, and I'm still hoping it happens. Ehh, you should check out the draft day thread back in 04. There were a few people (me included) who were pissed that the Cubs were passing on him in, like, round 6. huh... I wasn't even a member back then; I thought I was. I guess that was back when I would browse this forum but before I had become completely fed up with the ESPN boards. In any case, I've liked him since he was at Ga Tech and I started up the Eric Patterson worship thread like 10 games into last season. The way this offseason has gone, I'm pretty optimistic about him not being traded.
  22. Any player with good raw tools can be compared to Sosa and Vlad, but the problem is that few players reach that level. I don't think anyone is good enough to know which guys free-swinging, toolsy outfielders will be the few who reach that plateau.
