  1. I'm actually glad he's getting cut open... I'm pretty tired of this "rest & rehab" business because it's just not working. At least now they're going to root around and find out if there's something wrong. (also when I hear exploratory surgery, I think of Turk diving into the patient, replacing the tumor with a satchel, and darts flying through the colon)
  2. So all the parents who had kids killed at Va Tech should quit their jobs? People deal with death in different ways. Some people would have to walk away for a while. Some people use work as a coping mechanism. I think it's very rude -- and probably completely inaccurate -- to say that Tony Dungy completely forgot about his son.
  3. because they're the cubs
  4. Weaver sucked in St. Louis. okay fine... pitch well in the playoffs for st. louis (derek lowe pitched like crap for the Red Sox in 2004 regular season, pitched very well in the playoffs, got a big contract from the dodgers, and has earned that contract over the past couple of seasons)
  5. no team should ever, ever, EVER had a big contract to a player who has turned his career around in St. Louis.
  6. as is your use of the word "[expletive]"
  7. I find that very hard to believe I don't.
  8. Then I'd like some of whatever Murton is smoking that makes him the luckiest player on the planet. .357/.400 without hitting the ball hard. Pass some of that to the rest of the team, Matty. That lack of power is concerning. Not necessarily HR power (although a couple would be nice) but the ability to hit 2B's. Murton had 22 2B's and 3 3B's with 14 HR's last year. He only has one 2B this year, and that was a bloop the other day. He might be hitting the ball hard on the ground to get singles, but he's not driving the ball at all. If he continues to not drive the ball combined with that poor walk rate, he's not going to be a productive corner outfielder. Do I expect that to continue? No, I'm sure he'll figure out a way soon to work through this-but that's why think he needs to work through some things. Again, if .357/.400 is Murton struggling, then I think I'll be able to live with his production if he can get consistent playing time. I don't really like how you assume the "starting" Murton is the real Murton, and you the unproductive ABs from games that he didn't start.
  9. yeah i think a lot of us agree that this would be best, unfortunately the Marlins and Yankees don't agree I bet the Yankees might agree, especially with their pitching in shambles right now. yeah and Z would fix that how?

  11. We need a new team. Need to trade for Garnett. the lakers??? who do they have that would bring garnett in return?
  12. And then Varitek makes it back ^ 4 to give the Sox a 4-3 lead. Wow. I don't even know what to say. I'm in shock after watching that. How come the Cubs never doing anything like that? or win games for that matter? cubs don't have good players, red sox do
  13. This deal was roundly criticized, both here and in scouting circles, because Hirsh was a highly touted prospect who was major-league ready, and some believed he could already be as good as Jennings. Here's how they've fared so far: Jennings: 2 starts, DL with elbow tendonities Hirsh: 4 starts, 3.16 ERA, 23/7 K/BB in 25 innings, 1.13 WHIP By the way, Jennings is getting $5.5M this year and then is a UFA; Hirsh will be under the Rockies' control for several years. I think we'll be laughing at the Stros for a while about this one.
  14. Lord knows why. I'm pretty sure he played SS his whole time at LSU, and has played some SS in the minors. At worst he'd be adequate, and his bat is so much better than Izturis/Cedeno that it'd make up for the difference in defense. Yeah. My guess is they don't think his arm is strong enough to play SS, but hell that hasn't stopped Eckstein. right, just teach him to do that video game "power up" move that eckstein does before he throws across the diamond

  16. after striking out abreu twice and getting the shaft seriously, what is the deal with the espn pitch track or whatever they call it? the pitcher can throw one that paints the corner perfectly, and when they show it on pitch track it misses the zone by a foot. I'm convinced that thing is bogus.
  17. any first baseman without power is sean casey
  18. Oh man, I can actually see the e-steam coming out of your virtual ears. What do you say we actually get back on the point? DLee had better hit a home run soon, he's not going to keep hitting at this level unless his power comes back. No steam coming out of my ears; I'm as strong willed as you... Back on point, I'm not worried about DLee's power because he's hitting for average and getting on base at a high rate. without home runs his SLG will have a tough time maintaining. his BABIP is like .460! when his BABIP comes down and he's not hitting for power, he's going to be very bad. I wouldn't say very bad -- he does still have strong plate discipline -- but his BABIP is 3rd highest in all of baseball. If there weren't a physical issue in play I wouldn't be concerned. But considering that he suffered a major wrist injury, I think it'd be silly not to be concerned about his lack of power since it happened.
  19. That has nothing to do with how many he will hit this season. Neither does the rest of the thread. Why does it matter when he hits a homer? He's still hitting well and that's all that matters. This is overblown. not really... it's not uncommon for players to lose power after a wrist injury. If Lee goes from a 30-40 HR threat to a guy who can't hit 20 HR, that's a big deal. Let's not get carried away. Lee hit 40+ homers once. if anything, he's a 28-30 (maybe 35) homer guy to being with. he hit more than this in 2003, 2004 and 2005... way more in 2005, and in 2003 he played half his games in a pitcher's park. He has hit 8 HRs in 67 games the past year-plus... that's a concern.
  20. no, but prior is probably dusty's fault, 2004 was dusty's fault, the continued presence of neifi perez and (insert any other incompetent veteran here) was dusty's fault... trust me, he did enough damage to this team to deserve 10 firings. Instead he just didn't get his contract renewed.
  21. dempster will be this year's latroy hawkins and ronny cedeno will be this year's neifi perez
