  1. trading away the phillies current assets is going to be a key step in their rebuilding process. i wonder if their ownership really wants amaro making key decisions on some of their aging veterans, since he could (should) be [expletive] canned after the season.
  2. ahahahahahaha
  3. meh, doesn't look that irresponsible to me. a 133 pitch start at one point, and then a string of starts going 125-125-115. i'm not sure what to think about trading for hamels. on the one hand, he's already 30 and having a pitcher signed at $20m+ for more than 5 years is pretty terrifying. on the other hand, he's been about as reliable as any front line starter in the game for the past several years, so you would think/hope that maybe he's one of those guys who won't collapse or suffer major injuries before his mid 30s. although that's not really working out for matt cain, verlander, sabathia, cliff lee, roy halladay, etc. i would probably hold off if for no other reason that jon lester is only marginally worse than hamels, and all lester will cost is money. hamels is good enough to bring back a top prospect, or three good/solid prospects.
  4. some comments on that tweet by mike missanelli (philly sports talk host; don't know how connected he is to rumors).
  5. Evidence in performance, velocity or anything else this year? yeah i have no idea what that comment was about. he had some shoulder inflammation early in spring training, but his velocity and results are just as good as ever.
  6. addison russell has a single, double and walk in 4 plate appearances. .909 ops with the smokies. still 20 years old.
  7. amaro values his own players way too highly to just give them away in a salary dump. that's the reason that he didn't make any trades leading up to the deadline; he's thinking that he can get the moon for aging veterans.
  8. yeah if they lose the first round draft pick protection, the offseason plan pretty much becomes lester and/or maeda, or bust.
  9. schlitter, rusin, villanueva, valaika, lake, schierholtz... there is more than enough dead wood to cut loose if they want to sign him. personally i'd just stick him in the pen for someone like schlitter or whatever, let him work with bosio while rarely pitching games. rosters expand in a few weeks anyway.

  11. http://m.mlb.com/video/v35118117/chccol-baez-blasts-first-career-home-run-in-debut it's pretty loud there for being the 12th inning of a game between two bad teams. say what you will about cub fans, when there's something to get excited about, we will turn up.
  12. perfect placement on the home run. just dump it in the bullpen so that you're guaranteed to get your first hit/first home run ball back.

  15. man, baez was right on that 0-1 slider... it was a hanger, but he just swung a little under it.
  16. It is a good thing, but he's been done since last season. He was a long shot when the Cubs got him (which is why they got him). He didn't hit in AAA. Got handed the ML job, and didn't hit. He has the 3 best IF prospects in baseball on his heels, the same IF that has the ML team's 2 best players. And if Bryant and Rizzo are at the corners, there's really no place for him to get ABs, other than pinch hitting and he doesn't put the bat on the ball enough to be counted on in that role. well the good news is that with all our real prospects moving up to the big club, there is plenty of room for olt to get regular playing time in iowa.
  17. they should call up soler in a couple of weeks when baez is striking out half the time and the meatballs are starting to turn on him.
  18. bryant is walking a [expletive] load lately. i think pcl pitchers are figuring out that it's easier to just pitch around him than to turn around and watch the ball sail over the fence.
  19. bryant single followed by soler rbi double.
  20. wasn't cap anson one of the worst racists in baseball history?
