i like how matheny went to taveras, who has been worse this year against LHP than bourjos has been against RHP. and it also allowed the giants to remove casilla, who had thrown fewer than half his pitches for strikes and was now in a position where he HAD to throw strikes. i'd sure as hell take bourjos with the bases loaded over wild reliever instead of rookie-who-rarely-faced-lefties against affeldt. especially considering the tie game and bourjos' vast advantage defensively. you get a worse matchup, lose a superior defender and burn a position player in a tie game. bad move.

i don't think it's a coincidence that cuban players have started defecting in droves right when cuban ballplayers start getting tens of millions on the open market without ever having seen a major league pitch. a fine example of market incentive to rub in castro's eye. -

probably because he knew that cruz has 3 home runs in his entire major league career and is a third string catcher, so he shouldn't really hit a home run even if you miss your location.

Did anybody other than Hendry and Fleita ever pump Kelton as a pure hitter? I don't recall BA or the greater scouting world ever being as buzzed about his hitting as Hendry was. i think it was more that he had a "sweet swing" than he was a "pure hitter." -

I don't really care about them but it's so frustrating seeing everything go right for certain franchises. Bruce Bochy isn't even a good manager and he has a chance at 3 rings in 6 years. yeah that's pretty much it. there were multiple superior teams each of the years that the giants won the world series, but they got hot at the right time. now they're up 2-0 in a series where they've won two one-run games - today's game they were down to their last out with nobody on base. brian sabean isn't a very good GM but they've managed to fall into some amazing luck the last 5 years.
