i can't imagine how he'd be a fit. he doesn't walk enough, which contradicts the FO's statements about wanting to improve OBP. he's a lousy defender. he mashes lefthanded pitching. basically he seems like welington castillo with more power and worse defense.

i can't believe anyone thinks a veteran player would give much of a [expletive] about the cubs' farm system ranking. these guys aren't idiots. a veteran player like lester is more likely to come to a team that's on the upswing with a lot of positive buzz (cubs right now) than go to the cubs of 3-4 years ago, who were just as lousy but were almost completely bereft of young talent. i will admit to being out of the loop when it comes to some american sports these days (mainly football and basketball), but has robert griffin really fallen that far that he's going to be released in the offseason and will probably have to accept a backup role somewhere? he had a great college career, great rookie year, and is still 24 years old. what happened? has he regressed that badly? has his knee injury destroyed his greatest asset? are the redskins just completely incompetent?

yeah given that bryant was a runaway winner of the minor league POY award and most of the other top prospects had significant injury problems last season, this was pretty much a shoe-in.

I think his slider ranks as one of the best in baseball and he throws it with appalling frequency.

Both and we die. there's no way they end up with both. but they could get one of the very good starters (shields, price, scherzer). it's not just a pipe dream, their interest in those guys.
