  1. "Oh yeah; I was also there all of those other years, included the two where we won the World Series!" an argument of "we're competitive all the time" falls a bit flat when the club has finished in last place two of the past three seasons. Far more competitive than the Cubs, competitive more of ten than not and they've shown the propensity to bounce back quickly when he was with them and the willingness to do what is needed to bounce back quickly. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say the Cubs have to sell themselves a lot harder than teams like the Red Sox or the Giants. maybe, but the cubs have a "cool" front office and manager, and they're regarded as up and coming. cleveland isn't exactly title-town, and finished last year at 33-49 in the pathetic eastern conference, but they managed to get lebron to come back for a second try and bring in kevin love in an attempt to win a title.

  3. red sox: hey jon, we're competitive all the time! jon lester: you know i was on the red sox in 2012 and 2014, right?
  4. if i'm dumping prospects for a pitcher, i'd rather go after gio gonzalez or jordan zimmerman. at least then maybe you're getting a pitcher before he hits the open market, and signing him while he's in his late 20s rather than early 30s. but i'd still rather just give lester a pile of money, because those nats pitchers will not come cheap (nor will cole hamels).
  5. i think all of the belks and zaxbys are in the southeast, which is a place i've never lived. i also haven't lived in the u.s. for almost 5 years, so if they do any sort of national advertising, i would've missed out on that.
  6. companies i don't know if i've heard of before: r&l carriers, gildan, royal purple, raycom media, san diego county credit union (how does a local credit union sponsor a bowl game?), zaxby's, quick lane, duck commander, national university, advocare, belk, franklin american mortgage company, foster farms. and how is there a boca raton bowl, and a bowl sponsored by bitcoin
  7. 7 years is a joke but you're willing to go 6? i mean, i get that you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, but sometimes if you really want a player you have to bite the bullet and go for more years or more money than you want, especially when you've got organizations awash in money also looking for good pitching.
  8. what is that, like the 90th smoke signal that people have needlessly interpreted as "whelp get ready to be disappointed because we're not getting him"

  10. Meh. There are long term pitching options available out there just for cash as opposed to shelling out what few resources they have via their crappy farm system for a single season rental. if they're not in contention in late july they can always flip him for prospects.
  11. 2/-20 when you account for the fact that the cubs didn't sign sammy sosa to a 20 year 800 million dollar extension in 2005
  12. I always liked "Roast as generic Cub employee"every time and usher or grounds crew member fucked up.

  14. bukie said it best when he referred to kaplan as "screaming dildo dave kaplan."
  15. poll needs more bum.
  16. lol, spraying a machine gun into the crowd.
  17. sickels originally wrote: Grade A: Two Grade A-: Two Grade B+: Two Grade B: Two Grade B-: Five Grade C+: 13 Grade C: 19 but he reconsidered and bumped up soler to A (presumably from A-). i'll guess: Grade A: bryant, soler, russell Grade A-: schwarber Grade B+: almora, edwards (i think sickels always liked edwards) Grade B: pierce johnson, mckinney Grade B-: torres, underwood, vogelbach, sands, tseng (think he'll have tseng higher than most others since he relies more heavily on stats)
  18. classic click bait. hey, here's a player that numerous large-market teams with big fan bases would like to sign. "jon lester considers which team to sign with. you won't believe what happened next!"
  19. how dare he say that we don't have the payroll capacity of the yankees and dodgers right now. oh well, nori aoki and jason hammel, come on down!
