  1. Well I'm not sure how the Cubs can do it today, since they're off. I'll vote tomorrow - they'll get in a huge brawl and the whole team will be suspended and have to forfeit the rest of the season.
  2. People are pretty split on Santo. Nobody thinks he's a good announcer per say, but many people enjoy his fan-like take on the game. You have to realize that you're not going to get any analysis with him, or any real insight, but you'll get somebody invested into the team. Kinda like watching the game with you crazy uncle. Pat Hughes works wonders to make Ron tolerable. With an average PBP man, Ron would be really annoying to Cubs fans too I think. yeah, santo is the everyday man who bleeds cubbie blue - he just happens to be a Hall of Fame (i don't care how inept the voters are) player with the same team. He's a total homer, goes through the ups (few) and downs (many) that we cub fans all go through, and he openly roots for the cubs. but i guess when something great happens and you hear ronnie celebrating, you feel happy, because he's probably the biggest cub fan who's ever lived, and you feel like he deserves good things coming his way.
  3. mlb needs to find out what happened here... if it turns out that the ump said something completely out of line to bradley, then suspend the ump for at least the playoffs, and force him to go to counseling* in the offseason if he ever wants to call another game.** * - yes i'm aware that anger management counseling is useless, but if you're going to make players do it, make umps do it too ** - yes i'm also aware that MLB has no balls and will probably just end up suspending bradley for a few games
  4. And that's different from us if we win the division... how, exactly? we outlasted 5 teams, 5 of which are pretty lousy nah, 4 are very lousy and one is all right
  5. congratulations angels, you outlasted three teams, two of which were lousy!
  6. sounds about right to me too
  7. no joe carter? and sarge matthews is really getting the shaft.
  8. agreed... fontenot hasn't hit for beans lately, and cedeno is a better fielder if a replacement is needed. Plus Cedeno is righthanded, and the Cubs usually have plenty of LH bats off the bench.
  9. lenny harris here. and micah bowie a close 2nd.
  10. I don't see how Pie can be considered "on the bubble." There's no reason to start him, but he's very valuable as a pinch runner for the base cloggers in the late innings, and he's also a necessary defensive replacement for floyd/murton when the Cubs have a lead. They've been using him just about every game down the stretch; why would that change if they get to the playoffs?
  11. same here. As it is, nobody on any of the contending teams has overwhelmingly good numbers, like Howard and Pujols last year. When that's the case I'll just pick the best overall player, and that's been Hanley.
  12. Owned not really... it reads the way that otis interpreted it.
  13. meh. i was hoping to see things thrown around. that was pretty tame. I do agree with Yost in that there should be accountability. Umpires blow so many calls, and you never hear anything about them being punished. I'm not saying they should be perfect, but if a guy is blowing too many calls, being overly aggressive or argumentative, or calling an inconsistent or lousy strike zone, he should be fined, suspended or (in the most extreme cases) let go. If you're not going to hold umps accountable, then come up with a plan that allows instant replay. All that being said, Ned Yost is a terrible manager and I hope he's in Milwaukee for years to come.
  14. if the cards win, the cubs are a half game closer to the playoffs. if the brewers win, then the cards lost. win-win situation as far as i'm concerned.
  15. GIS for "crap happened here": wow how the hell does that happen
  16. that's why i voted for the last option
  17. I love being right. lots of people patting themselves on the back for picking a 3 point underdog who hasn't lost a game to penn state since 1996. You and especially Derwood sounded a hell of a lot more confident about Penn State winning going into the game on Thursday and Friday. I picked Michigan in both the college football pools I did this week.
  18. +1 Illinois has a better chance at pulling the upset than Michigan St or Maryland. If you don't believe me, Wisconsin is favored by 7 and Rutgers by 14, but PSU is only favored by 3.
  19. Santana should win most years, but he hasn't pitched that well in the last month. I'd probably go with Sabathia; he's #1 in VORP and has a solid K rate.
  20. whoever has the most wins
  21. I noticed this during the third inning of the game, Len was giving the execs of the Cubs credit and they listed a bunch of names. Anyway, the Cubs exec coordinator of business operations: Sarah Poontong. Seriously.
  22. i love todd blackledge trying to figure out what the hell mike patrick is talking about
  23. I go first. 1. One-pitch Rich 2. Geovany Soto. 3. Bob Howry 4. Aramis Ramirez 5. Carlos Marmol
