  1. Aren't some of his defensive skills kind of useless at Wrigley? Like when he slams into the wall and robs a HR. How does he do that at Wrigley without hurting himself?
  2. The only way it would make sense to have Murton and Nomar at the corner OF spots is if we're getting better production from CF just to bring the OF to league average in production. I don't see us getting Giles. There are about 50 other teams he'd play for before the Cubs. Maybe make a trade for someone like Lew Ford or Coco Crisp to play CF?
  3. He's going to sidearm the ball to the cutoff man? I think Nomar's only value to this team is at SS. It's a position where it's hard to find good offensive players, so I'd be willing to take the risk. At RF, it probably wouldn't be very hard to find a player who can outproduce him and play at his natural position.
  4. Don't worry. Pujols will win it anyway.
  5. I blame Blanco. Does he ever call anything besides a fastball?
  6. I really want no part of Kearns' one-year wonder-esque high BABIP from 2002. This season, even after his time in AAA, he has an OBP of .332 and an average of .245. That's way too Burnitz-like for comfort. Presuming Adam Dunn is unavailable, I might be interested in Griffey -- even as injury prone as he is -- for a corner OF. Otherwise, I have no interest in any Red OF not named Adam Dunn. And Weathers looks like one of the English Hanoverian Kings: squat and ugly with bulging eyes. No thanks. ME THROW BALL... Anyway, I know aout Kearns but he plays solid defense and has pretty much raked in Wrigley for his career-(maybe I'm just haunted by the homerun last year....basta....son of...) anyway-any other options we could get for that package? Hill+Williams+Welly should net us a good player to man RF-any ideas? Mench? Although he can't seem to hit on the road.
  7. I think that's overpaying just a tad.
  8. But it's going to need replacing next offseason. Maddux and Wood will be gone. Cubs are going to have to get another starter anyway. Since there aren't many good position players available this offseason, why not use some of that money to sign a starter? Not sure the D'Backs would trade Quentin for Williams though.
  9. His O more than makes up for his D.
  10. Dude's afraid to swing. Walks too much. Can't have that, gotta be aggressive.
  11. Don't think so. Bowden is stupid, but he's not that stupid.
  12. In 12 seasons in the majors, Floyd has played 3 full seasons. This could be his 4th. That doesn't seem very safe to me. If they're going to stick Floyd in one of the corner OF spots, they better get another impact bat for the other spot.
  13. I'm with you. The infield has been the least of our problems this year. Our outfield, bench, and bullpen have been the death of this team. Overall, we have one of the best infields in all of baseball. Ok, how fast is Murton? Don't jump all over me for suggesting this, but what if Nomar could handle left, Murton in Center, Giles in right, Aram at 3rd, Furcal/Cedeno at short, Cedeno/Walker at 2nd, Lee at first, and Barrett behind the plate? Would you be up for that? I was reading your Blog. Do you feel stupid or do you have a mental block on spin? Murton is one of our top trade pieces. Cubs won't trade Murton until his BABIP falls and he starts to suck. Then we'll likely get a veteran bench player for him. How awesome.
  14. Am I the only one who would have no problem if the infield was kept the way it was supposed to be on opening day? Lee, Aram, Nomar, Walker. What's wrong with that? Can Walker/Nomar really outproduce Cedeno/Nomar? I don't think it can. Just fix the outfield.
  15. More could have been done the previous offseason. There was enough on the market to make the Cubs a very good tream. Why couldn't they get Tejada or Vlad? Hendry was very shortsighted, and now I could definitely see them overspending on crap this offseason. Whose the last player the Trib signed to a contract lasting longer than 4 years?? Hendry doesn't sign the paychecks. They could have had the money to get Vlad. It just would have taken some outside-the-box thinking by Hendry. The Yankees needed a RF after 03. Sosa was still productive, but on the decline. At the time, I'm sure the Yankees would have loved to have him. So you give him to the Yankees, if he agrees to waive his NTC, and use the freed up money to sign Vlad.
  16. And how do you explain the huge vein popping out of his arm? :?
  17. If you can turn one good player (Lee) into 2 good players, I think you have to do it with this terrible FA market. Trades are the only way the Cubs are going to get anything of value this offseason IMO. Thome's defense is not that bad. He's about average. Plus, it's 1B.
  18. I was thinking the same thing. He can serve as a one-year stopgap until Pie is ready.

  20. The thing is he won't be underpaid for long. It's kind of risky to give him Pujols-type money after one stellar season.
  21. What if trading Lee got you another All-Star, possibly one younger and more likely to stay at their current numbers than Lee? There's a lot of good hitting 1B, I'd explore the possiblity. I agree. I think Lee could get us a very good OFer and a pitching prospect or a reliever who can help the team next year. To fill the hole at 1B, Cubs can look into getting someone like Helton. If Lee was a couple years younger and was locked up for more than one more year, I'd be against it. It would be nice to see Hendry sell high. It seems like he hasn't done that in a while.
  22. Why would the Cubs let Williamson walk? I know he has sucked (small sample size), but he just had TJ surgery and will likely be better next season.
