North Side Baseball's Community Awards: 2025 MLB Season

As we gear up for another snowy offseason of no baseball, it's time to look at the community members who made North Side Baseball great over the long grind of 162 games.

Hello again, Cubs fans! Twice a year, I sit down and find the most popular posts and blogs on North Side Baseball, and their creators receive prizes for their contributions to the sprawling behemoth that is this site. While the 2025 Cubs season ended in disappointment, there were many great times to be had at Wrigley in 2025. We look at the most popular posts and blogs created by our users.

Let's dive into the most popular content of the 2025 MLB season.

    Most Popular Post
The most popular post of the 2025 season was a post from long-time user @CaliforniaRaisin, in which they talked about taking their son to Wrigley for the first time. You're all a bunch of sentimentalists, I say.

For this well-liked post, you win an unopened box of 1987 Topps baseball cards. Please private message @Brock Beauchamp with your address so I can ship this fun prize to you!

    Most Popular Post Runner-Up
Well, @imb has struck again with a one-liner that makes this list. In the ever-popular off-topic forum (which can only be seen by registered, logged-in users), irreverent banter abounds.

    Most Popular Game Thread
It's fun to look back at a season and see what the most popular game thread was over 162 games. This year, it wasn't much of a surprise: with 654 replies, the most commented game thread was the August 19 game one doubleheader against the Brewers. It was the Cubs' last real chance to crawl back into the division race at Wrigley Field, and people were pumped to face the division-rival Brewers.

    Most Popular Blog Post
Late in the summer, baseball was awash with realignment rumors. While it makes sense in many ways, some of the proposals were rather outlandish (don't get me started on Ben Verlander, who apparently has never seen a map in his life), @spaincubsfan looks at Jim Bowden's east-west alignment plan, which makes some sense even as it grates on my baseball sensibilities.

For this well-liked post, you win this cool felt banner showing the complete history of Cubs logos! Please private message @Brock Beauchamp with your address so I can ship this fun prize to you!

    Most Popular Blog Post Runner-Up
One of our most regular bloggers, @ryanrc, makes the list yet again. Early in the season, they looked at Genesis Cabrera and wrote up a short analysis post about how to maximize their performance on the 2025 Cubs. Thank you again for all your entries, Ryan, and keep them coming!

    Most Prolific Poster
We always like to hat-tip the poster who earned the most reputation points, which are given based on the number of posts, how many users liked that content, and other metrics. It's always fun to welcome a new face to this award, and in the 2025 season, it was @Derwood! Thanks for being such a great contributor to North Side Baseball!

That's all for this season, folks. Give a round of applause to all of those mentioned in this piece, and here's to a successful offseason for the Cubs!

Enjoy the cards @CaliforniaRaisin.  I won them last year (1988 Topps) and my kids and I had a blast opening up the packs and me telling them about all the guys from the 80s that I grew up watching.

Edit: DONT eat the gum 😂

    Congrats to all the winners!

    Congrats to all the winners!

Despite being objectively kinda ugly, Topps 1987 hold a special place for me as the first set I completed as a kid, buying a couple packs a week with my allowance money.

I recently saw a box in a liquor store of all places and had to grab a few packs, and opening them up was a heavy nostalgia trip.

I think that's a great prize, but yeah, don't eat the gum

I’m at a conference in Orlando and judging by the young ones walking around here, jorts are still in style.

I used to love the tops baseball cards. I just bought the latest season for my grandson. It was actually funny when his birthday came and I had to tell him I had a gift I was giving him but I couldn’t get it yet. His birthday is in July. The entire set of the season came out in August. Anyway, I told him I was giving him something I loved getting when I was a kid. He looked at me strange as if to say “is there anything back when I was a kid that a kid today would love”. He didn’t say that but I am sure he thought it. And in a sense I understand that mentality from a 9 year old. However I will be happy to tell you he loved the gift and now has a giant book of cards with all the players. Nie his younger brother wants a set too. Topps cards are a timeless gift across all generations.

I'd also suggest the forum do some kind of thread on end of session awards for the Cubs we could all vote on.  Not just the usual awards but all sorts of fun categories like "most improved player", "best team leader", most hustle", "best offseason acquisition" etc as well as maybe some dubious awards like "worst fielder" etc.

We don't even have to add up the vote totals if it's too much work, it would just be fun to see everyone's responses.  Something to pass the time between the end of playoffs and start of free agency.

With Tom being put out to pasture there might be some actual competition here.  I assume LBiittner took it with his crash oit but it's not a slam dunk

1990 Fleer, and 1990 and 1991 Donruss are my favorites for similar reasons. I could still describe some of my favorites from those sets.

i love how all the cards im nostalgic for are junk wax. There's a little card shop nearby and once a year I go up there and buy $8 boxes of 1990 topps or whatever they have laying around and the nostalgia is so crazy

Those small hits of nostalgia are my comfort in this stressful world. If it ever gets so bad that I no longer want to leave the house, just set me up with TV and movies from the 80s and 90s and an endless supply of old card packs to open. I'll be just fine.
