The 2025 MLB Draft will again feature just 20 rounds, but there has been a format change. After downsizing from a two-day, 40-round draft to a three-day, 20-round draft, Major League Baseball has now gone to a two-day, 20-round draft.

The final 17 rounds (from Rounds 4-20) will happen later today, beginning at 11:30am EST. You can catch it live on MLB Network and MLB.com. The Destination: The Show crew would like to invite you to join us live as we cover the final rounds of the draft There hasn't been a 17-round draft day in a while, but rest assured — there used to be 20-round days, so North Side Baseball will have the capacity to cover the duration.

After selecting three players on Sunday during the first day of the draft, the Cubs will make 17 picks on Monday:

    121st Overall (Round 4)

    151st Overall (Round 5)

    181st Overall (Round 6)
Following Round 5, the Cubs will pick 16th in every round for the remainder of the draft.
Thus, their draft position is as follows: 181, 211, 241, 271, etc.

The Red Sox will have the 13th-largest bonus pool ($12,409,300) in baseball. As a reminder from Baseball America: "In the MLB draft, each pick inside the first 10 rounds comes with assigned slot values. The sum of those slot values creates each team’s bonus pool. From rounds 11-20, players can sign for up to $150,000 without counting towards the bonus pool. Anything beyond that value does count towards the pool."

It's also important to remember that teams can exceed their bonus pool allotment by up to five percent before incurring any future pick penalties. No team in bonus pool era has ever exceeded that additional five percent threshold.

Once again, North Side Baseball will feature the Cubs Draft Tracker, which will be kept up-to-date not only during the draft but through the entire signing period. So keep coming back for updates!

..... Maybe Jed was instructed not to spend on the draft🤷. So they are going cheap.

Heh heh, that I think is relatively implausible.  They spend to the max every year.  Have every year since the rules have been in place.  Kantro has either spent it all already, or else is still going to.

Selecting multiple guys who dropped due to medicals is definitely a choice.

The list of meh picks continues. Don’t get it. Obviously the Cubs are seeing something most others don’t see or agree with. Maybe Jed was instructed not to spend on the draft🤷. So they are going cheap.

The Cubs will spend their full allotment. They always go to the edge of the 5% overage. We just might not like how they get there.

I'm still wondering if the fact that other teams aren't taking these guys either doesn't mean there's a simple logistics issue of only having an hour to work through the discussions instead of overnight as in year's past.

The Brewers are still doing their universally praised thing of taking 4th-6th round graded prep kids (or even lower graded kids from the North) in rounds 11-20.

Hoyer and DK absolutely love taking injured players. Jesus.

Lol, they seem to know what they are doing, so I guess?

I'm all in. Draft every hurt kid who has a good scouting report before he got hurt.

Ive been cool with how our pitchers have been developing. Especially this second wave we have coming through starting with Wiggins, Gallagher and Sanders but this just seems like such a weird strategy.

Since the 5th pick in the 13th round, only one player ranked by MLB.com has been taken.

Barring something crazy happening, it looks like Wing and Hartshorn may be huge overslots.  I'm going to take the "glass half full" approach and be somewhat excited that the FO found two guys they think so highly of that they would rather blow their entire underslot load on them, rather than spread it out to 4-5 others.

If you assume all pitchers break and often, maybe it's better to get them coming off injury rather than when they're healthy and about to break?

    Nothing behind that theory.

    There's definitely something up league-wide.

The draft isn't over yet and it's likely at least a few of those guys get popped, but there's a lot of mid-tier HS depth that's currently sitting undrafted compared to last year.

Its a fair hypothesis. I thought that same thing when they first started doing that a couple classes ago.

Not that I'm complaining, but it's weird that Tom isn't in here during the draft.

I wonder if this is just the first year that we are seeing the effects of NIL money on college baseball programs. It's taken a little bit to get there but teams probably have budgets now that football and basketball has been sorted out with a lot of schools.

Man the 11th round and after used to be more exciting than this, we're getting like what maybe 2 players in the top 250  taken per round at this point? This is incredibly boring.

With some much talent not drafted this year, could it make sense for a team to blow past all the spending limits to secure a massive haul, only punting next years picks?
