Lawton might be someone he'd like to keep around. He certainly won't cost as much as his last contract. With Nomar at SS, there are only 3 positions to get a lead off guy from. If Patterson comes back to CF, that leaves two, LF and 2nd.

You assume Nomar is back next year? Or you are talking strictly about the remainder of this season?

How about giving Murton a chance before giving up on him. Just because he's not a "5-tool" prospect doesn't mean he can't play at a big-league level. He's done nothing but hit since he's been up here, and I wait to see how he adjusts once the pitchers find a weakness, but back off for now.

Corey Patterson is a "5-tool" player and look how much good it's done him. I really don't care if he isn't fast or if he has average D. All he has to do is hit and walk, and not be a total butcher in left and he's welcome on this team.

I think Nomar would be back. Dump Neifi so Dusty can't misuse him anymore, sign Nomar to another incentive-laden deal, and have Cedeno back him up.

Nomar even said he wants to be back.

is there anyway to make a waiver move for griffey, for a package of

hairston, and prospects?

that would make things much easier

No, because Hairston and the prospects would get claimed.

Then why didn't the Cardinals' prospects get claimed last year when they did the Walker deal?

It's unlikely somebody would claim a player placed on waivers for the purpose of making a deal unless they wanted to make a deal for that player themselves. The waivers are revocable, so it's not like the Cubs would lose the players if they were claimed.
