Iowa Cubs Send Nine To The Plate In A Six-Run Fifth, Beat Omaha 7-3

Four innings passed without a run before Iowa sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth. Austin Wynns was hit by a pitch to start it, Jordan Nwogu doubled him home, and James Triantos followed with a single. Matt Shaw singled to right to bring Nwogu around and make it 2-0. Owen Ayers and BJ Murray struck out, but Chas McCormick drew a walk to load the bases, and Justin Dean lifted a soft fly into right that was misplayed. Triantos, Shaw, and McCormick all scored, Dean came all the way around behind them, and Iowa led 6-0.

Omaha answered with a three-run home run in the sixth. Iowa got the run back in the seventh, when Ayers doubled and McCormick singled him in for the 7-3 final.

Kohl Franklin set the tone, working 4 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Luis Peralta allowed a hit over 1/3 of an inning and picked up the win. Shelby Miller was charged with two runs over 2/3 of an inning, walking two and striking out two. Connor Noland closed it with 3 1/3 innings, two hits, one run, two walks, one strikeout, and a home run allowed, and he earned the save.

Triantos and Nwogu each had two hits, and Nwogu doubled. Dean drove in two runs. McCormick singled and walked three times.

Knoxville Smokies Tie It In The Fourth, Fall 4-3 At Biloxi

Knoxville drew even in the fourth and could not hold the ground it had taken. Alex Ramírez opened the inning with a pop out before Ariel Armas and Edgar Alvarez singled back to back. Carter Trice grounded out to third and Armas scored to cut the deficit to 3-2. Alex Madera then lined a single to center to bring Alvarez home and tie the game 3-3.

The Smokies had put the first run on the board in the opening inning. Miguel Useche singled, moved up on a catcher's interference call, and came around on a force out that Biloxi threw away. Biloxi answered with three runs in the bottom half and retook the lead for good in the fifth after a walk and a fielding error by Karson Simas. Knoxville put a runner on with a hit in each of the next three innings and did not score again.

Brody McCullough took the loss, going five innings and giving up seven hits and four runs, all earned, with one walk, five strikeouts, and one home run allowed. Tyler Schlaffer followed with two hitless innings, no walks, and one strikeout. Jacob Wallace worked one inning, allowed a hit, and struck out one.

Useche led the offense with three hits. Alvarez added two, including a double. Armas, Ramírez, Madera, and Simas each had one. Trice and Madera drove in the runs. Knoxville drew no walks and struck out seven times.

South Bend Cubs Score Seven Early, Bury Wisconsin 13-6

South Bend scored seven times across the second and third innings and never gave the lead back. Logan Poteet and Alexey Lumpuy opened the second with walks, Matt Halbach singled to load the bases, and Poteet came home on a double play ball off the bat of Leonel Espinoza. Reginald Preciado singled in Lumpuy, and Josiah Hartshorn doubled to center for a 3-0 lead.

The third was longer. Angel Cepeda singled, Kade Snell doubled, and Poteet singled in Cepeda. Lumpuy singled home Snell, and after a fielder's choice at the plate and a pop out, Preciado lined a two-run single to center to make it 7-0.

Cepeda homered in the fourth and again in the ninth, the second a three-run shot that turned a 10-6 game into a 13-6 final. Lumpuy tripled in a run in the fourth, and Hartshorn singled home a run in the ninth.

Brayden Spears started and gave South Bend three innings on two hits and two runs, with two walks and five strikeouts. Braylon Myers picked up the win over 4 1/3 innings, surrendering three hits and four runs, including two home runs, with two walks and five strikeouts. Adam Stone closed it out with 1 2/3 innings, two hits, no runs, no walks, and one strikeout.

Hartshorn finished 4-for-6 with a double and two runs batted in. Cepeda went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored. Poteet, Snell, Lumpuy, and Preciado each had two hits, and South Bend totaled 17 as a team.

One Hit For Myrtle Beach Pelicans In A 6-1 Loss At Augusta

Myrtle Beach collected one hit all night, and it left the yard. Darlyn De Leon homered to right center in the third for a 1-0 lead, and that was the entirety of the Pelicans offense.

The team finished with one hit and three walks against 11 strikeouts.

Augusta tied it in the bottom of the third on a home run, then put the game away with four runs in the fourth. The rally came on a bases-loaded walk, a groundout to second, and a fielding error by Alexis Hernandez. Augusta tacked on a run in the seventh on a two-out double.

Hayden Frank took the loss over 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and four runs with three walks, three strikeouts, and one home run. Luis A. Reyes followed with 1 2/3 innings, walking five and striking out two while allowing one run and no hits. Jhon Cabral struck out five over 1 2/3 innings, giving up one hit, one run, and two walks. Sam Mettert finished with 1 1/3 innings, no hits, no runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

De Leon accounted for the only hit and the only run batted in. Juan Cabada, Alexis Hernandez, and Eli Lovich each drew a walk. Cabada, Hernandez, Jhoander Irigoyen, Corey Nunez, Lovich, Derniche Valdez, Ivan Cespedes, and Derik Alcantara went hitless. Myrtle Beach used its bullpen for the final 4 2/3 innings and gave up two runs over that stretch.
