I'd like to take this opportunity to personally apologize to Willson Contreras for not having him as my #1 prospect going into the season.

 

He's hit safely in every game so far for a slash line of .478/.520/.609. He's struck out twice in 24 PAs and has thrown out 3 of 7 potential base stealers. We get it, dude. I was wrong. Relax. Feel free to go 0-for-4 today. You'll still be hitting .407.

Well, looks like I jinxed him. Since the original post, Contreras has reeaaallly cooled off. He's only hit .324 since April 12th. This dude...

 

He's reached base in every game this season, still sports a slash of .375/.419/.446 and has thrown out 5 of 11 stolen base attempts.

Since this last post his batting AVG has dropped a catastrophic 44 points to .331.

 

Fortunately his OBP went up a couple points to .421 and his SLG has gotten only slightly better by 120 points as it is now .566. He has an OPS of .987 compared to the .865 he had when he was hitting .375.

 

He's okay, I guess.

I didn't have him as #1 either, but I'm sold after these past couple weeks with the HRS and the glyven and the glaven. His bat is meeting the new organizational standards, I assume, pushing a 1.000 OPS with a 12%/13% BB/K as a gd C. He's had a Jorge Posada-esque path to the majors as a former infielder lined up to take over the full time role 5 years after converting from a non-1B IF position.
