Would signing him to a one-year contract with a team option for year #2 be consistent with the lottery ticket strategy we are pursuing?

It seems to be. He has to have as good a chance as Stewart did/does to rebound and we signed him twice.

Can't really compare the two. Stewart was a former top prospect who had a few solid big league years, but never came close to his potential. Sizemore had 4 seasons of 5.3-6.5 by the time he was 25 and on the way to becoming one of baseball's elite before he got injured.

And to answer the question, I'd most definitely sign Sizemore at the right price.

guy can't stay healthy. he hasn't been good since 2008.

unless you can get him super cheap and hope to flip him at the deadline, I don't see the point

Cheap would be the only way or reason to go. Of course there is a good chance that something will fall off of the man before season's end.

The only point is there isn't much out there and we have zero offense. Do we spend more money, for a longer contract on a cody ross we don't really want or gamble for little risk like dejesus and stewart.

I would give Sizemore that split contract (for 2 years) like that Japanese RP who is hurt got. Sizemore is not supposed to be back until midseason I believe. Sign him a similar deal (maybe less $$/yr, but more incentives).
