7 years, $132 million

 

deal kicks in after the 2013 season. the dollar amount seems reasonable but i don't really know why they needed to give him a huge deal when he already had 3 years left on his contract. he played only 101 games in 2008 and 122 games this past year, so the injury risk is real.

 

also, jeff passan has managed to write an article criticizing both tulo and the rockies for this deal. apparently tulo "lacked the fortitude to chase the greater glory that awaited him elsewhere" and the rockies can't afford that type of deal on an $80 million payroll.

 

jeff passan is a douchebag who is wrong a lot.
