Haha. Not really. To me, it reads as though Dusty doesn't want his hitters to swing at the most likely meatball pitch of an entire at bat.

 

2 runners had already been walked in the inning. Cincy is down by 2 runs and one of their best power hitters has a 3-0 count. Another walk gives Cincy a chance to win the game, and the other team knows that. There never should have been a take sign put on in the first place.

 

That pitcher does not want to walk Phillips, so expect the 3-0 fastball right down broadway.

For Dusty putting on a 3-0 take sign is announcing to the world that your players dont have the baseball smarts they should have.

 

The ONLY way you swing at a 3-0 pitch is if it is your pitch in your location and you never miss that pitch. Especially down by two runs.

I didn't think MLB managers gave a take sign. I always thought they trusted the hitters to know the situation.
