I'd like to nominate the State College Spikes for this dubious honor.

I attended my first Spikes game of the year tonight, and watched them get pounded 13-4 by the Staten Island Yankees. That dropped their season record to a less-than-stellar 11-42, or a .208 winning percentage.

they're 4th from the bottom of the league in runs scored, last in home runs and 2nd from the bottom in walks.

that's bad, but their pitching is just another level of bad. The new york-penn league is a league that favors pitchers, yet the spikes have managed to post a 5.68 ERA. the closest team to them, in ERA, is 4.19. they've allowed the most home runs (38) and have a team whip of 1.54 - nobody else is worse than 1.41.

your state college spikes... ugh.

they lost their next 2 games, so they're down to 11-44. losing 4 out of every 5 games is pretty piss poor.

oh you and your negativity. they're winning 20% of the time, that's better than any slot machine I've ever played

The Spikes are awful, but what do you expect from a Pirate-run team? Their higher-ups don't seem to care, so why should anyone else?

...

You State College guys... where do you plan on watching playoff games? Bar, home, other? Myself and a friend will probably find some stools at Champs. Or maybe the new Sports Cafe, if LaVar gets it up and running by then.

The Pirates had a really good draft and dropped some coin on some on their guys (3 players got a bonus of $900,000 or more). They also had 1 big name signing in Latin America.

yeah, a lot of their guys signed too late to play in short season ball so they headed to instructionals. i have to think there is something wrong with the spikes though - they just shouldn't be this bad. their pitching is especially horrible and they make a lot of fundamental mistakes in the field. i'm guessing that the coaching staff is not doing their job properly.

dubya, i don't really know what i'm going to be doing for the playoffs, but if you want to meet up at champs for a game, let me know. i don't know who else is in state college other than priorpower. sports cafe will almost certainly be completely remodeled inside; the former owners did a really half-assed job with the interior before. they got loans intended for the sports cafe and poured most of that money into the links, a bar down on west college ave. they didn't pay a bunch of former employees, and i have heard from two good sources that the co-owner of the place was selling cocaine out of there.

good riddance to them.

DAMMIT the spikes have caught fire, winning 3 of their last 6 games, so now they're up to a .231 winning percentage.

the visiting team's bullpen was pretty funny the last game i went to. they were playing various games with paper cups. they set up 10 of them and would bowl the ball toward the cups from the other side of the bullpen. then they set up a croquet course and started playing, hitting the baseball with the bat and trying to get it in between a few sets of cups.
