Rotoworld reports that the Orioles (of course) called up Luis Montanez to fill the bench. Now we'll finally get a chance to see if he was worth a top 5 pick.

The Orioles purchased the contract of outfielder Luis Montanez from Double-A Bowie.

Montanez, who was drafted third overall by the Cubs in 2000, will finally make his major league debut. He was hitting .335/.385/.601 for Bowie this season, but the Orioles never did put him back in Triple-A after he was mediocre there last year. Now that he's no longer an option in the infield, it's doubtful that he'll have a career as a bench player. Still, if it's him or Jay Payton, the Orioles might as well give him a look in center field.
