During the 2008 draft of my league with friends from work, I selected Kerry Wood in the 16th round. This selection was met with widespread mocking and derision, as people were aware of my Cub-fandom, as well as Kerry's less than stellar health record. The selection of Wood came a round after picks like a.j. pierzynski, todd jones, curt schilling, jeremy guthrie, freddy sanchez and felipe lopez. even if wood's arm were to fall off tomorrow, i've gotten more out of him in 2 months than other people will out of their late-round clowns all year.

 

not counting shawn marcum (who is eligible as a reliever but is really a starter), kerry wood trails only mariano rivera (what team's he on? oh yeah, mine) among relief pitchers in the yahoo scoring system. suck it, accu-league.
