Advice: Mauer for BJ Ryan

Looking for advice on a trade proposed to me. I'm in a roto league. I'm in 1st place right now, but I'm in last place in saves (Just traded for Billy Wagner so that will help, also have Cordero with Cinci and Gagne :roll: )

 

I give Joe Mauer

 

I get BJ Ryan

and

Chris Synder C Arizona (as a throw in).

You're giving up a top five catcher for a below average catcher and a closer that's had arm problems.

Even if he didn't have arm problems I'd never do it. Mauer has been a bit of a fantasy disappointment so far, but I still would not do it. Don't pay for saves.

If you can get get a cheap deal on a closer, I'd consider adding one. But if you're legitimately in first in a roto league (not b/c you're over the IP pace by 50 or b/c you're way up on games played, etc) and you already added Wagner, I'm not sure I'd look for more saves. With 2 good closers, you can finish middle of the pack in saves, which is more than enough if you're great in other categories.

 

This is a horrible trade though.
