John Sickels did one of his "Not a Rookie" reports recently on Felix Pie. It's a decent read.

Link.

A lot of it is just rehashing of Pie's minor league career and credentials. He does deal with Pie vs Patterson comparisons in one short paragraph.

Cubs fans and people who invested fantasy resources in Pie are worried that his early struggles are a sign of possible Corey Pattersondom to come, a guy with tremendous tools who never turns them into consistent skills. This is certainly possible: it's a risk you run with any tools player who needs polish. And Pie does need more polish. However, it is much too early to panic or pull the plug on this guy.

He was just 22 last year, 23 heading into spring training 2008. Given his performance in 196 games of Triple-A, he has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues. Since July 2006 he has been a monster for Iowa, and I see no point in sending him back there. Triple-A pitchers have nothing left to teach him. The best line Patterson ever managed at Iowa was .253/.308/.387. This is not the same thing at all.

I'm interested in hearing why Meph is so sold in Pie being a complete bust.

I'm sort of on the fence, either way. Objectively, his minor league numbers look pretty good. I didn't see much to get excited about either numbers wise (obviously) or otherwise (other than his arm) in his limited playing time with the big club, though. You would think he'll figure it out to some extent, eventually, though.

I think it is hilarious how they are arguing (in the comments) on whether or not Felix Pie is a black man or not. With all due respect to the black man, Pie is blacker than Wesley Snipes. (relax, it is a Chapel thing and I'm not racist).

I don't want to derail anything either way, but yea.

I don't know when the lines between natural (genetic - if you will) race got crossed with ethnicity/nationality. Coming from a Spanish speaking country doesn't make his ancestry any less African. What is known in the US as Hispanic or Latino can be an individual of any one race or some "mix," including "white." I'm Cuban and of 100% European (Spanish) ancestry. I'm white. People always tell me I look "so white." Well, gee, no crap. /rant
