This may not make me very popular around here, but doesn't he make some sense for the OF? He had a .900 OPS last season (could he have already peaked? I dunno.) and his defense is very good. He'll likely command less than Jones and certainly less than Hunter. You can move Soriano to RF and let him play LF.

Just throwing it out there.

rowand ain't going to sign somewhere to play LF. he just won the gold glove, regardless of how awkward he makes the position look.

If you move him from CF it greatly diminishes his value. And I don't really like that he put up OPS' of .736 and .746 in 05 and 06. If he regresses to the low .800's in OPS, he's not worth the money he'll command if you move him to LF or RF. He'd be much more worth the money in CF.

Though he'd probably kill himself in Wrigley Field, I'd love to have him for $10 million a year or less. Not going to happen though.

If it did, he'd stay in CF and Pie/Murton would platoon in RF. Prolly would still need another bat though, but he'd definately make the team better.

If Torii Hunter makes $18 million a year, what's a younger Rowand going to make? $15 million over 6 years? There is nothing about this guy that the Cubs need. He had a career high in hits, doubles, runs, RBIs, walks, home runs, etc. this year. His OPS the last two years before that hangs around Jacque Jones territory. He's YET ANOTHER righthanded, high strikeout, low walk hitter we don't need.

Like I said, for $10 million a year or less (which isn't going to happen), he would be a good addition. I wouldn't really gauge his production on 2006, since he spent a lot of time on the DL - but I would look at his numbers from 2007 since he played all but one game. Rowand was 29 last year and is an improving player. He hits in the clutch and plays great defense. He isn't great at drawing walks, but his 47 last year and .374 OB% make me wonder if those totals were a fluke or an improved approach at the plate. Only time will tell.

He would not be a bad addition assuming the Cubs can't land Fukudome or pull off a trade that doesn't leave the bullpen or rotation weaker.

Which those two things probably make him the most overrated Free Agent on the market. Not on topic, but it's like hearing how Andrew Jones is such a great defender. I think he's so lazy he just jogs as fast as he has to, to make a diving play. Rowand is the exact opposite where he actually catches the ball and then breaks his face up.

I'd rather have Mike Cameron or Andruw Jones. If Hendry gives up the team's 1st round draft pick for Rowand (you give up nothing for Jones or Cameron) he's a colossal fool.

This is the definition of an unnecessary dependent clause.

I was in the airport two weeks ago, November 15, and I saw a limo driver holding one of those signs with the name "Rowand." I asked the driver for the first name and he said something like Charles, I don't remember. I thought I had some sort of scoop.
